Reevaluating my plan

Published

Does anyone else reevaluate their plans for nursing school?

I swear I draw up the timeline at least 3-4 times a month and it always changes based on new information. So this is my plan...

I've already enrolled in the spring semester, I do everything online because I learn it WAY better, I also have a 2 year old and a 9 month old. I work full time as a lab tech in the Army as well.

Spring 2014

A&P1 -17 week course

Statistics - 9 week course First half

History 1 - 9 week course First Half

Nutrition - 9 week course Second half

History 2 - 9 week course Second Half

Summer 2014

A&P 2

Human Growth and Development

Visual Arts

Gov't 1

Fall 2014

UCSD Lactation Consultant Course

(120 hr online lecture with 300 clinical hours)

Application Deadline for BSN is Feb 1st 2015 to attend in Fall.

So I need to take the Teas test before then. (joy)

How early am I able to take the Teas test?

Spring 2015

Government 2

Summer 2015

IBCLC Exam

Fall 2015

Hopefully starting nursing school.

There is some great big IFS though. Because as some of you know from my previous threads my Chemistry and Micro have come into question by the school and they need to be petitioned to be accepted.

So if they are accepted thats awesome. If not, well then hopefully I can complete them before August 1st deadline for the Spring 2016 class start date.

My GPA isn't too competitive right now. As it stands both my cumulative and math/science GPA is 2.9. To be eligable your cumulative has to be 2.5 or better and the math/science needs to be 3.0.

I am certain I can get the math/science above 3.0 I was able to see it be a 3.2 if I get straight A's. Which would also raise the cumulative but I didn't calculate by how much exactly and its all just a guess when it comes down to it.

From what I've researched as long as you meet the requirements you're offered a spot since the classes are huge.

I'm feeling a wee bit discouraged right now about being accepted.

I've also just given it to God about the whole Chemistry thing, because either way I wouldn't have time to retake them until after the fact. The only downside is not getting everything done right away like I planned. I have 4 years of Post 911 bill from the military. 1 year is going to the IBCLC credential, 2 years to the BSN and a year left over to finish what prereqs I need to complete if they end up not getting accepted.

I think there is some yellow ribbon thing to help me if I really use up all my benefits.

Another thing that is worrying me is transitioning out of the military smack dab in the middle of a semester. I will be moving to Texas in the late summer of 2014 and trying to buy our first home. Blah.

Anyways, I guess I'm just looking for some encouragment! And the school I'm applying to is UTHSCSA. Since we're buying a house this is the only school I will apply to I've decided. I can't uproot my family, besides my husband's family lives there and we need all the help and support we can get to make it through. Sorry for rambling, if you made it this far, thanks.

This is what they base the decision on,

  • TEAs Cumulative Score (59%)
  • Science & Math GPA (30%)
  • Cumulative GPA (10%)
  • Application Questions (1%)

Just wanted to say that I somehow feel inspired and more determined than ever. The timeline I put myself at I think was stressing me out. I need to accept the fact that it might take longer, and be pleasently surprised if it doesn't.

Here I go reevaluating again.

The nursing school said my General Chem would count for Chem 101, I am thinking of taking the visual arts class out of the Summer session and moving it down to Spring 2015 and taking General Chem 2 during the summer. I can swing that for sure. Then I would have all of my chemistry done and they'd have nothing to gripe about! ;)

I don't know how my school bases acceptance to program on but I wish that was what it was. I don't have to take the TEAs but it sounds like it's just a baby version of the SAT and if the math and science GPA is just including pre-reqs I'd be solid. I say you should just relax. It sounds like things are looking up for you. :)
