Recommended Reading/Critical Care Resources/favorite books and sources for New Nurse in CTICU

Published

Hi everyone,

I will be starting as a new graduate RN in the CTICU next month and would love your C.E./Books/Websites/Journals/Resource recommendations! A&P, patho, pharm, concepts, hit me!! I know there are tons of pocket guides and textbooks out there. I like to read at home and do research after work. I know there will be a lot of that required in order to build on my foundation of knowledge. I am also sure that my new grad program will provide me with a lot of relevant information throughout my training and critical care classes, ACLS, etc.

But I'm a nerd, so I'm looking forward to this more than you know!

Let me know what you find most helpful

Specializes in CICU, Telemetry.

I really like Marino's The ICU Book

Also have a copy of hemodynamic monitoring made incredibly easy or incrediblly visual...I find those books have decent sketches/illustrations of concepts for more visual learners

If your EKG interpretation/rhythm identification is weak, I'd pick up some kind of resource- I don't have a particular one that I feel is better than the rest, just that this is a pretty important skill and you'll see some weird rhythms.

For Pharm I just use whatever resource the hospital is paying for- there's always one. Reviewing your drips (epi, levo, vaso, neo, milrinone, nipride, dopamine/dobutamine, amio/lido, cardizem, nitro) will save you time and errors later
