Recommendations for a new grad dialysis RN?

Published

Hi - I am a new graduate (May '13) and just accepted an RN position at an outpatient VA hospital hemodialysis unit. I worked there for a year as a tech, so I have the basics down but I was wondering if there are any good resources or recommendations anyone has for a new grad RN working in Dialysis?

I will be starting with the outpatient chronic population, and after 6-8 months will start to shadow in the acute care facility down the street.

I just want to be as prepared as possible, and knowing the VA hiring process I will be waiting at least another few weeks before I start my orientation. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you!

What have you learned working as a Dialysis Nurse? I am in the same position, though not new to nursing, I am new to Dialysis and will start in a chronic environment before progressing to an acute one.

Thank you!
