I have been licensed as an expanded function Registered Dental Hygienist for 26 years....have a BA in Psych, worked in Psych hospital a year...taught Special Education for a year...loved teaching but want options other than teaching SPED and cleaning teeth! Can anyone who has switched careers into nursing over 40 offer advice?

I was so excited to see your post! I've been thinking about Dental Hygiene as a career for oh so long! So, I was hoping that you'd be willing to give me some insight and perhaps some advice on the career itself.

I was excepted into a really great nursing school that I am to start in 2 weeks. But I really enjoyed working as a dental assistant. I also work as a nursing assistant and the difference between the two jobs are like night and day. Granted I worked for an older dentist for a short period of time, before being accepted into the nursing program but the job was so pleasant. Working as a nursing assistant is so tiring.

I can't give much advice about being a nurse because I'm not one (yet..maybe :o) but i can tell you there are a lot of students who are doing nursing as a second career. I would say if you're able to.. why not?

Have a Merry Christmas!
