3rd year student looking to emigrate to Australia or NZ

Published

Hi all.
I am nearing the end of my degree, and am hopefully going to get a job in ED when the process begins next month. I have posted in expat forums, but found this forum, which I am hoping will be more useful and less generalised.

Firstly, I have been told that the nursing shortage in Australia is not actually there anymore- in fact, there are more candidates than jobs. Is this true, if so, how would I go about being successful?

Secondly, I know it is subjective, but which location would you recommend moving to, for job prospects, cost of living etc.?

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Cheers, Grant

Hi!

It is a bit competitive to get a job in the city considering most people will be wanting that. But there are still heaps of nursing opportunities in Australia especially if you are looking at living in the regional area. Cost of living is fairly cheaper than in the city.

ED Nursing in the rural and remote areas is very exciting! Nurses are becoming more independent. You will have the chance to Triage and Treat many kinds of interesting presentations. However, some smaller towns do not have any medical officers present in the hospital, so the care all depends on the nurses' assessment and skills which might be a little overwhelming if your are a fresh graduate.

Best of luck in the future!
