as the title says, this is kind of odd for me to ask...
anyways I'll cut to the chase:
I'm a CNA student and I read somewhere in the book that part of daily hygiene involves changing underwear every day.
Thing is, I'm a guy who prefers to go commando. I have been for quite a long time, in fact, I don't like wearing boxers, briefs, or even boxer-briefs.
My question is, is it necessary to wear some form of underwear when working in the nursing field?

No, but this can sometimes be a little embarrassing for you and others. But, each to their own. J.R.

thin pants + no undies = bad mojo
Scrubs are made of such thin material undies are kinda neccasary. If you dont wear them people are going to get to know you better then you probebly want them too just by looking. Im not even going to comment on what might happen when you get stuck in a crowded room and have to squeez between famly mebers or other nurses to do your job.

:stone Yes, it is very odd. Join the rest of society and your professional colleagues and put some underwear on--and change it everyday. You and everyone else be glad you did.

Hmm...though there may be some people who would enjoy the fact that you dont wear any underwear:D Both you and most others would find it a little embarrassing (no pun inteneded) if it was discovered! JMHO!

I had a friend who worked as a PCA and he said if he didn't wear any underwear......all the "rubbing of the scrub pants" would make him rise to the occasion.......while walking down the hall. :chuckle

I have three boys, 22 years old, 20 years old and almost 4 years old. So I know . . . . scrubs are thin, not like jeans . .what happens with the last few drops of urine when you pull up your scrubs? Walking around with a wet spot is not a good thing at work.
Yes, change your underwear every day . . . that way you can wear your jeans more than one day in a row without having to wash them.
steph :)
Teehee! Well, I'm still single at the moment, maybe if I find a girl she'll like that.
anyways, back to the subject. Personally, I don't get embarrassed at all. I wear what's comfortable for me, and in this case, just happens to be wearing just scrub pants and nothin' under.
oh, I didn't mention this - I've got several pairs of dark colored scrub pants so nobody can tell whether I'm wearing underwear or not. At least I like to think so That, and I get my pants from Scrub Med, so I don't think they're the "super-thin" kind that DayRay was talkin about.
I don't really mind, either way. So what if they know? It's not going to get in the way of me doing my job, right? I don't think there is a concern when it comes to other people potentially finding out - I mean, so what?
I guess I'm just secure with my sexuality?
@ z:
in fact, that [the "rise to the occasion" thing] doesn't happen very often since I'm so used to "going without". Even when that does happen, and on rare occasions at that, its not like scrub pants are skin-tight (and mine sure aren't) so its usually tough to tell anyway.
Are there any hygiene issues with me doing this? Any other concerns that I should consider?
thanks everyone, for not laughing at me (well, at least to my face, haha!)

No advice from me. I did not laugh but the smile was too hard to try and stop. Really, I like well scrubbed, clean smelling co-workers. I never asked about the undies. Have a great day. :wink2:
Going without? Wouldn't that only aggravate the situation?
Isn't the fact that scrub pants AREN"T tight the actual problem? So its not held in type of thing........ :rotfl:
Just where is this going Z?
I dunno. :rotfl:
Just wear the underwear dude :chuckle

The thing is, you can't just think about yourself. You have to remember that you're going to be around a lot of people in nursing, and dark scrubs or not, it's going to be obvious that you're not wearing underwear at some point. Please don't put coworkers or patients in a place where they might find themselves uncomfortable with you.
There is a whole post somewhere on this message board about what kind of underwear guys should wear under their scrubs - and I think that even boxers were deemed too loose, just to give you an idea.
I have a friend who doesn't wear underwear (not a nurse), and on hot days, without that extra layer of cotton to absorb sweat and odors...not fun to be around. As a nurse, you're going to be running around all shift sometimes, and do you really want to have sweat stains down there???
Must remember too......the pee spot....SPREADS !!!! :)
