"I will have to see if the Nurse Mgr will be willing to work around your schedule"

I got a call from HR on Wednesday. Good, great, everything was going well until a few minutes in.... " So, I seen you are starting a BSN program in January. I will have to see if the Nurse Mgr will be willing to work around your schedule, and I will call you back." ***! Why even bother to call me?!? If I was worthy of a phone call then do your homework before you call me, as I did my homework before I submitted an application.

I applied for a Nurse Tech position in a magnet hospital. I have about 6 years experience, most obtained in the military. I DO start a BSN program in January. I was always under the impression/told that hospitals desire people who are furthering their education.

So once again, I guess the good guy will be punished. Me being upfront most likely means me skipped over on a job, or at least that's how it looks right now. If they don't want me, and aren't willing to work with me, then I am better off elsewhere.

Would you disclose the info about your future plans, or make it appear that your job is your focus?

I would not leave it out. However, sometimes there may be issues with juggling multiple nursing students. I see it in the ER since I am a student, the other ones have to jugle around me. I feel bad because I cannot commit to a schedule longer than 16 weeks. At least I am close to graduating. A lot of the nurses know that it will be a juggle if you have two students who may have clinicals the same day. I went from workin Monday Wednesday, weekends to only being able to work Thursday, Friday, weekends.

It is unfortunate and keep on applying. If you see a "float" position, it'll be better.

Well if you had hidden your education plans and been hired you'd then be up a creek come January when you start school, so you really didn't hurt yourself much, unless you just wanted a temporary job until January, in which case you'd then have to quit, possibly burning bridges with that hospital for when you finish school. Better to be up front and keep looking for a job that's willing to let you work contingent.
