Quitting job for new job back home

Published

So I live in a city with my spouse and 2 kids away from our home town. We have lived here for almost a year after I accepted a job in a Nurse Residency program. I have been trying to leave here for the past couple months because the city and being away from friends and family is dreadful. I signed a 2 year contract with them and if I leave before hand have to repay them a certain amount. I interviewed with a hospital back in my home town and got offered the job. I accepted it today, and will be going on orientation in 2 weeks. There is a clause in my contract that says that the employer is able to withhold my pay for reasons of breaching contract. If I go to them tomorrow and put in my two weeks, they will most likely not pay me my upcoming check and any future dates i work this week will most likely be withheld as well. I don't want to just quit without notice but do not really no what to do. I am not looking to be judged about breaking the contract, I had no intention of doing that from the beginning but things here are having an effect on me and my family and we are eager to leave this town. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Did you show the contract to a lawyer before you signed it? If not, now is the time to find out if witholding pay violates labor law. A lawyer can let you know if you have any options.
