I will be applying for nursing school this fall. My top choice is UPENN. Their absn/msn and specifically the specializations in pediatrics critical care or neonatal (not sure yet) are really appealing to me. However, UPENN is the ONLY school that I want to apply for that requires me to take 2 additional classes (one more chem class and a biology class). Long story short, it's A LOT on my plate. I don't know if it is worth it to take 2 classes and be stressed out. My question is...how competitive is the program and do you think applying to the school is worth two extra classes? -_-

Hi, I am in the same boat as you are. I am also interested in NNP or Critical Care Peds at Upenn. I also have to take the same exact classes as you- bio and chem. I definitely think it is worth it due to the high caliber of the program. Additionally there are only a few schools with BSN/MSN programs that offer these specialties as a masters choice. I know of only 3 others that offer NNP and one of them - Case Western, requires even more chemistry than Upenn does. I do not know of any other schools that offer a BSN/MSN with critical care peds. I therefore think it is definitely worth it to bite the bullet and take these classes. I definitely will. Can you apply while these classes are in progress? Good luck

I'm in the same boat, and probably going to go ahead and take the classes. And yes, you can apply while the classes are in progress, and even if you have some planned for the spring before the program starts.
