--at the time I wanted to advance in my career. I had an interview where I was not considered because I did not have a Masters..this gave me the extra push.
As a Psych CNS which has been pushed aside for the more known Psych NP, I have prescriptive authority in fewer states. It hasn't been a problem finding work once I realized I could work as a Psych NP ( in the 34 states that allow a CNS to prescribe)
-- I am licensed in 2 states which do not mandate physician supervision--much easier and healthier to choose who I want to talk to about patients..I have had very good supervisors and just because someone is an MD doesn't mean they are a good supervisor.
--NY has a current bill to have NP's practice independently..I am not sure they will take me as a CNS but they might
I do a very good job prescribing psych meds. I have a psychotherapy background which gives me a good foundation. The work is challenging.
I would hope to have prescriptive authority in NY and CA since I already have RN licenses there. I can prescribe in MA CT NH and OR and would like one more for locum tenens job security. I will likely continue to seek locums positions so I can work in 3 month blocks. This works for my personal situation.
Hope this helps!!
Thank you soooo much for your help! I am a full time nurse going to school full time and I just didn't have the time to try and find someone I didn't know to answer the questions. I really appreciate it!
