Questions about military nursing

I've become interested in becoming a military nurse and I have some questions about certain things that I couldn't find the answers to online.

What is the danger of becoming a military nurse, do I have to be concerned that I could lose my life like any other soldier? This is very important to me. I frankly don't want to die :D

I know that there is a weight requirement for military nursing and I am pretty overweight, do nurses get to attend the military fat camps?

Do I need to go to basic training?

If I receive my BSN, would I be considered an officer?

Does the military have a reserves program for their nurses?

Do you actually get to work in hospitals or is it out on the field. I know they're taking as many people as they can overseas at this point, and I assume, since there is a war going on, there wouldn't be that great quality of medical facilities around. Just wondering if ya'll get to work in hospitals or is it all in tents?

when I was considering going to get my MD I was seriously considering going into the military, but I never actually researched it. I appreciate any help, thank you! :loveya:

1. Danger: For nurses extremely minimal. I personally only remember hearing of one nurse causalty during the current war on terrorism.

2. Weight: You won't be able to pass your entrance physical if you are overweight/you won't be allowed to join the military. http://www.military.com/Recruiting/Content/0,13898,rec_step07_hw,,00.html here is the ht and wt standards.

3. You would go through officer training not basic training/boot camp.

4. You will need your BSN, at a minimum, to join as an active duty officer, but you should be careful because you will need to talk to a healthcare recruiter not a normal military recruiter. There are many enlisted recruiters that will try to get you to join as an enlisted person instead just telling you should join as an officer and referring you to a healthcare recruiter like they are supposed to.
