Hi, everyone! I'm new to this forum and have a few questions about being an LVN student.
I am 20 and have been a student at Navarro College since the Fall of 2009. Until just recently, I planned for a career as an English teacher and had been following the AA in English degree plan. But at the beginning of this semester, being only 12 credits shy of earning my associates degree, I have decided to change my career plans entirely. I really wanted to go into the LVN program when I first started college, but because several of my friends were not accepted, I didn't to "put all of my eggs in one basket", so to speak, and be rejected. Because of my fear of rejection, I went against my better judgment and decided to not apply. But now that I have had almost 2 years to think about it, I'm regretting that decision. I am planning to attend an info session in November, but before I completely invest myself in it, I have a few questions.
1.) Do any of you work full or part-time and go to classes at the same time? I know that students typically attend class and/or clinicals 5 days a week, so I realize that it would be hard to maintain certain jobs. However, it is not an option for me to be umemployed while going to school, so I will still need to work at least 20-25 hours out of the week. Is it possible to do this and be successful in the program?
2.) What would you estimate to be the total cost of the program for students being charged out-of-district tuition and fees + books, lab kits ,etc?
3.) I know that there are no prerequisites required for the LVN program, but do you think that the admissions committee would look badly on me for having already completed 60 credit hours of core curriculum work? Would this impact an offer of admission? I don't want to look indecisive.
Thanks in advance for the advice!
