Question about TCC

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

OK! I'm really confused about the Tidewater CC nursing program. I hope someone can help with my questions.

I understand all of the basic stuff that you get from the packet and the online video. However, the main questions that I have are not answered in either of these.

I am applying for the program by May 15th, because I am finishing up my pre-req's this spring. Let's say, all is well and I get accepted into any cohort on my first try (fingers crossed). Let's get really hopeful and say I get accepted into the August cohort...how do classes work? I get that each class is only 8 weeks long, and I need to complete each class before moving on to the next, because of prerequisites. Below are my questions:

Does this mean I take NUR108 the first 8 weeks, and then NUR130 in the second 8 weeks? Then in the Spring semester, do I take NUR170 in the first 8 weeks, and then NUR180 in the second 8 weeks?

I usually take about 9 to 12 credits each semester. For these classes to take all day, I don't understand why the credits associated with them are so low.

Are NUR108 amd NUR130 basic classes, or do the clinicals start the first semester of classes?

I hear that around 300 people apply to the nursing program (is that per year?) and that only 120 (divided into 4 cohorts) are excepted each year. Is this accurate?

My application deadline is approaching and I'm feeling anxious. I wish I would have taken my BIO classes sooner, so I could have applied by the Dec. deadline. Has anyone who has applied under late admission ever gotten into the first cohort, or should I expect to start later?

I'm sure I have a hundred more questions, but these are the ones that I have been most curious about and unable to locate answers for. I would really like to find someone who doesn't mind me contacting them for more questions in the future.

Thanks so much!
