Question regarding Cruise Nursing

Published

Hey there,

I am a pre-nursing student from California. I was just reading on all the different types of nurses from various fields. I came across nurses from cruises on the net and I was just wondering why the start off at about 2200 a month. Does anyone have an idea why? May be the cruise covers the house, food, etc..? or perhaps some stories related to it :D

Thanks

My brother worked on a cruise ship and I met his friend who was the RN on board. Food and board is provided free of charge so that $2200 is tax free and all yours.

Specializes in Emergency Room, Cardiology, Medicine.

I imagine it has something do to with dealing with sea sickness all day long? Maybe?

Specializes in NICU.

I worked in 3 Club Med villages as a massage therapist and choreographer in the mid 90's. At my first village, the RN was my roomate and buddy. She only made $800 USD per month while room and board were covered. I would only recommend this for the very young though because you are on for 24 hours, then off 24 hours and during your "off" time you are required to hang out and entertain the guests and unless you get the guests to buy your drinks for you, that comes out of your paycheck! It's really a 24/7 job. No one does it for the money but it was a good experience for me as a 19 year old! :mchmrdnc: I had friends who worked a cruise line and I think it would be a better gig since you are payed more and not expected to "fraternize" with the guests but then you're stuck in a tiny room at sea for months at a time...:barf02:
