I am 9wks pregnant and presently living in Florida. My husband goes on deployment in Oct and I am hoping to head to Wisconsin to be with his family for the birth. Unfortantly, I cannot get insurance cover where they live in Madison and the nearest I can get cover is Janesville. Does anyone know what the hopsital there is like and does it have a good reputation? Is it a small, rural hospital as I need to have a c-section. Also, is the journey between Madison and Janesville an easy one as I would have regular OBgyn appointments.

I REALLY appreciate any comments you may have! Thanks!

Hello,

I live in Janesville and commute to Madison daily to attend school to finish my ADN. The drive is a mere 35 miles down the interstate (I-90) and takes about 35-40 minutes depending on how fast your going. In the winter during icy conditions, I opt to take other routes because of a few nasty areas on the interstate and those infamous truckers losing control and taking out everyone near them! Hwy 14 is a good drive for a two lane highway and might take an extra five or ten minutes.

As for Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. I work there as an LPN and my children were born there. I don't think you could really call Mercy a "rural" hospital. They are expanding rapidly and offering many specialized procedures and diagnostics. Take a look at their website for more info (Mercyhealthsystems.org). Both of my children were born there as well as my grandchildren ....no complaints here. Of course, one must always take an active role in their own healthcare as you probably know.

Thankyou for your response and it confirms what my research has come up with that Janesville hospital is not as small as I originally thought it was! Its good to hear that you have had postive experiences and I appreciate your insight.

I know Mercy Janesville has had a lot of press lately in re:to good and bad. If it isn't a complicated birth I wouldn't worry. If it was a complicated or high risk birth I would be on the weary side. I know their surgical area doesn't have a good reputation due to people I know and their experiences there.
