Hi I'm seriously considering doing my MSN in Midwifery..have lots of bedside L&D experience...I would like to know from certified midwives how it is post MSN... are you able to practice or is it difficult to get a job as opposed to say ..being a NP or CRNA..

Okay, not an midwife, but I went from 15 years L&D experience to working on my FNP 3 years ago because in my area, Central Ohio, it was difficult to find a job as a midwife. When I started my MSN, the doctors and hospitals in my area were laying off midwives due to the HUGE increases in .

I loved, still do love, OB, but I didn't want to have to relocate and was worried about employment. So, now I'm an FNP and happy.

There are areas that support midwives well, I just don't live in one of them.

Thank you ... did you do fulltime school or Online??

I did school part time online because I worked full time and needed to continue to do so. I did end up not having a job for my last semester only because my unit was closed due to the hospital making budget cuts. It ended up being a good thing as it enabled me to get plenty of extra hours in for my practicum.

I wasn't trying to discourage you from pursuing your dream of becoming a midwife. If your area supports them I say go for it. It just worked out better for me to do the FNP thing. Also, it let me focus on new things to learn.

Good luck with whatever you decide :D
