Hi ! I currently am a LVN in CA, and want to do the online LVN-BSN at Indiana State, and Im so confused about some things. I understand that once I apply, and if Im accepted, I have to take some nursing tests, and complete pre-reqs before I am accepted to the nursing program. I know that I can get the study materials for the nursing test through TCN. Does TCN have anything to do with the basic pre-reqs (ie:english, general psych), or do I take that online through the college ? Is each pre-req an entire semester course that I take through Indiana State ? Or do I get material through TCN for each pre-req, and do the work, then take an exam ??

Go to the search button on top and search for California ISU or California Indians State University, There is one particular post devoted to California LVN considering transfer to ISU's probram. You can also go to the ISU threads through the distant learning site. There you will find all the answers to your questions as everyone has had the same questions.
I understand that once I apply [apply to the university and forward your transcripts. and if Im accepted, I have to take some nursing tests, [yes there are 4 challenge exams you must pass before you can enter the LVN to BSN program and become an advance standing RN student]
and complete pre-reqs before I am accepted to the nursing program. You must complete your pre-requisites before you can petition for admittance into the program. You do not need your prerequisites to take the challenge exams, but why take the challenge exams before you have your prerequisites done?
I know that I can get the study materials for the nursing test through TCN. You do not need the very expensive ($525 each) study guides. The same material can be found elsewhere. Much as been written about the study guides and TCN.
Does TCN have anything to do with the basic pre-reqs (ie:english, general psych), or do I take that online through the college ? ISU does not have the basic pre-requisites. You might try their associated college....Ivy Tech. They are an online college and accredited. TCN is not accredited they just sell study guides so that you can CLEP out of the exam.
Is each pre-req an entire semester course that I take through Indiana State ? It is difficult to say what you need to take because you did not mention what is missing. You can take your prerequisites at any community college for far less than what you would pay at TCN. Normally, if you take a prerequisite class at an accredited college it is a semester or a quarter...but I cannot speak for all colleges.
Or do I get material through TCN for each pre-req, and do the work, then take an exam
If you do get your material and CLEP out of the exams using TCN study guides, you are going to pay over $10,000 for study guides and TCN is not accredited.
My I suggest you do some reading about TCN that others have posted. There are many, many postes about the ISU LPN/LVN to BSN program also posted...you just have to find them or search for them.
