Hi, I'm a fourth year nursing student from Canada with chronic pain that has decided to stay away from bedside nursing for health reasons. I have a choice between a final semester working in public health or an outpatient clinics. Which job do you think is better for a career, happiness and job satisfaction?
I also want to take care of my health. I have trouble with certain tasks: lifting, standing for too long and bending, squatting, etc.
I believe these final placements give you a good chance of getting a job in these fields but I want to make a smart choice about which one I go into before regretting it.
Thanks

im not sure about public health but i hate outpatients way too busy demanding patients to be seen on time
Hi, I hear that outpatient is very different from bedside. What are some common tasks you would be doing? How much are you on your feet? Thanks

its a different world from bedside
pros: fixed schedule and hours
mom to fri or sat mornings
id say you wont stay a lot on your feet
the cons
less pay than bedside
complaints and demanding patients which can take its a toll depending on how much patients will be seen
lots of paperwork too
i was an ex employee at an outpatients clinic
Thanks that's a lot of useful information! It really sounds good to me. Are you using a lot of assessment skills, or do some skills kind of get rusty?
