Psych Nurse in Army Reserves

Published

Hello everyone! Long time reader, first time writing. So like the title says I am Psych RN looking for information about the Army Reserves. Some background info, I have been a nurse for about 2 1/2 years on the acute inpatient psychiatric unit. I will have my BSN completed next February. Working on Psych Cert currently. I'm 23 years old. Considering the Army Reserves because family and friends have had good experiences and results. Unfortunately (but fortunate for him) the only nurse I know just got promoted to Colonel and does not remember much about basic Army Reserve or how it would impact my hopeful path of continuing education. So my real questions are...

1.) Benefits of Army Reserve as a nurse

2.) Financial benefits (specifically continuing education in nursing)

3.) Contract time (the main website vs. what people have told me are different)

4.) Duties (I know psych is my specialty, but I lack major emergency and med-surge skills, is their training or education involved? I can't see the army being too excited for someone with limited medical skills)

5.) Please share your personal experiences with me! I' looking for as much information as I can find!

Thank you for your replies, Looking forward to discussing with you :)
