Hi, Fellow Psych Friends! I am a Psych nurse with 7 years of experience and this is the only nursing I have ever done. I'm new to the forum although I have seen quite a few posts pop up recently when I've done searches in the field. My question is this: What Care Delivery System do you currenly use on your unit? How are patients assigned? We are having a great deal of difficulty finding a balance on our unit with the current changes in technology (the majority of my workforce is mature-close to retirement age-and has been in the field of psychiatry for 20-30 years). They are not adjusting well to a computerized medication system nor a change from 8-hour shifts to 12-hour shifts. Functional nursing seems to work better for the acute psych setting but Administration wants Team Nursing. Not sure that's the right fit for us but not sure what else to try. Staff satisfaction and patient satisfaction are very low. We are a 28 bed unit with a 4 bed overflow area. I'm very curious to hear what you are doing and what your successes and failures have been.
