Prospective Nursing Student

Nurses Career Support

Published

I am currently a student at Florida International University who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Nursing. FIU's nursing program is strict, which means that they don't allow repeats in any of their science core subjects ( which are microbiology and survey of chemistry). I just took Microbiology and ended the class with a C which does not guarantee a spot in the Nursing school. Even students with a B in their courses and with great GPA's have a hard time getting into FIU's nursing program... Should I continue at FIU in hopes of maybe getting into their program, acing Chemistry and my other nursing prereqs, or should I look into other schools in FL which offer repeat chances for core classes like Microbio...

Does anyone know of any good colleges that offer this chance and aren't as strict as FIU?

Also, I really wanted to join the Baptist Health Scholars program which I know is partnered with NOVA and FIU for their nursing bachelors program... Does anyone know of any other colleges or community colleges that offer a partnership program like this?

I was thinking the same thing. I just finished my first year at FIU and majoring in pre-nursing and I hear most schools (in florida) are strict when it comes to the nursing program because so many people are applying and theres not enough space for everyone applying. Even Broward College is strict as far as the grades but I think (in my opinion) i think you should try acing all the other courses & pre reqs you have left then apply and in the mean time talk to the nursing programs your interested in to see what they look for when accepting students into their nursing program so at least you have an idea of another plan if FIU does not accept you.

Dont worry, even if you have to re apply over, im pretty sure you'll get into a nursing program if your grades gpa and science gpa is great. i read a couple stories and students with gpa's such as 4.0 had to reapply over again.
