  1. Sometimes it's the teachers! And I'm like, they're fine!

I been getting so many non-emergent things lately and it's driving my nurses and I bananas.

If you were able to bring your dog with you to the camp you are working at, how did you make that work and how was your dog and where was it kept? The camp I'm working at said I can take my 2 year old dog, small breed, 15 lbs. Loves kids and loves attention, but I wanted to ask how people were able to deal with it. Because I'm planning to either leave him with my parents or see if I can take him with me.
  4. I understand, but I rather let people know what they are getting themselves into before traveling miles from home and being stuck at a camp for 2 months with no way out. If you have questions, please ask me. I'll gladly tell you my experience. This was years ago, btw.
  5. No Camp Starlight... never again
  6. That many? That's horrible!
  7. I had to sub today for my nurse in one of my schools and we had a positive. I had to send 5 kids home today... so much paperwork. Then I was doing it wrong, so I had to redo my paperwork like 5 times today. The protocols are so confusing!
  8. Here in my district in Texas, we been telling teachers that if any student is acting sick to bring them to us straight away. Basically, we will find out pretty quick, because we have 3 options for parents, either A) they go to the doctor and get a note that is very detailed and says what the child has is not covid but an alt diagnosis. B) They get COVID tested and bring the test results back and are neg. C) they stay 10 days at home. (Guess which one gets parents pissed and cussing at me?!) So when we call parents, then we learn the truth. "Kid was sick but he got better and its not COVID". NOpe still doing the protocol, come get your kid. Now if the kid is positive, we are still doing the 14 days until our Powers to BE decide what is our new protocols. So no parents are going to hide anything from us, at all. But parents are being cooperative now and are actually doing the testing before telling us and are keeping kids at home more now. And are telling us if they got positive on COVID too. But in the beginning? Nope.
  9. I'm barely doing my pre reqs but that's the plan. Hopefully get some of these done before next year so I can get into the programs near me. They are going well! Getting good grades, just having a hard time with math but I'll get there! You got calls from the Health Department? Any changes with the protocol? We had to change ours because our Call Center was getting swamped with so many cases, we are only sending them forms for actual positive cases now and not negative.

I remember when I had my FF. I wasn't playing around with them, I would ask them why. They would sometimes tell me something was going on at home or in the class, so I would send them to the Dean of Students to handle that and I would call parents to let them be aware of the student's visits. By the time I was there in my last year, I cut down my Original number of having 65 students visit me every day my first year to only 10 a day my last year. You can do it OP and don't be afraid to asks questions here, if I didn't do it here, I would've not survived my last job! Good luck!
  11. Heyy.... I'm back again! I miss you guys! I hope things are okay... I'm happy at my job, 6 schools is alright to handle... currently doing classes for Nursing School. Vent time! I'm back from Thanksgiving break... guess what? In my first school of the week, we have 9 POSITIVE CASES! They are calling us and are like "We visited family during the break and now we are positive!" and it's like... duh? So yeah... not the only school sadly. Just waiting for things to go down and close down the schools because... cheese on crackers... what the hell? So today we are just filling out contact tracing forms and sending it to the Ones Above Us and they can deal with this poop show. We also are losing CAs this semester, like new people are just leaving after their first day. We are hoping for new 10 CAs, but nothing yet. Besides that... I been fine, just busy at work and at home with my new puppy. Here's hoping we can survive another 3 weeks. 3 weeks until Christmas Break! How's things in your states?
  12. First day of school and I was sent to help out a nurse at a school with more than 50% of students in person permanently until they decide to send me back to my float position. The nurse is very kind and we get along really well, and we are just filled to the brim with new procedures and paperwork. The worse part for us the parents, who get so upset over our new rules. She's gotten the worse of the blow and I have to remind her all the time, she's a good nurse and to ignore these mean parents, we both have come close to cry due to these people. We are a bit overwhelmed but since we are both together and she's not doing this alone, it's helping with morale. What you guys are saying, exactly what we are also talking about sometimes, is that we totally feel uncomfortable using our nursing judgments. Our head nurse always tells us to trust it, but good gods, this year? We are just so confused and trying so hard to take control of the situation. I really want to tell these angry parents to chill out, we are try to keep thing as simple as possible, but we aren't' the ones who make these new rules, we are just following what our uppers are telling us to do. We don't want to send kids home, but we have to due to our rules. I don't like the idea of missing 10 days of work due to something that could be a cold or allergies, but we can't do anything about it. Besides, this new thing going on, I'm doing quite well. It's my second year here at my new school district and in my 5th year as a CMA and 4th year doing school nursing. Here's hoping things go well for you guys too.
  13. My job is using us to check teachers and workers during this time in our schools. We are doing curbside food and school packets. But once it's like 1 or 2 pm, we just leave. So It's not bad. Some days I have no school to go to, so I end up just staying home with my family and doing some online school.

I had a kid tell me that he wanted a pet chicken for Christmas, name it Gabby and hatch a baby chick army.
  15. I saw some posts from 2009, but I wanted to ask if anyone has had any luck lately with any online courses for microbiology? If so, any links? I'm looking for the class to do my pre-reqs.
  16. Mine told the others I was basically good for advice, so I became the advice person for my students. I didn't think I was doing anything until I left and I had kids cry to me because I left. But others said the same thing, "The nurse didn't do anything!" I still hear this in my new job. Even then yeah, we do something, we gave you water! ?

I just a kid in one of my schools tell me that he can see super far and hear super good because of his Batman hat. He did good, so I believe him. But he was zooming around the office and my Nurse was like, oy vey.
  18. Amethya replied to Amethya's topic in School
Oh yeah, I am very enjoying that. I am responsible to help the nurse, but she's one in charge. Like I'm invisible and I love it. Something is wrong? Talk to the nurse! Oh, I'm missing a day? It's okay, I'm not the nurse! I know! I was so happy when I got the job@
  19. I had pink screening cards today, so yeah!
  20. Amethya replied to Amethya's topic in School
Oh yeah. it's way lower. I do deal with what I usually had last year, but it's easier when I have a partner. They are really kind and fun to be with. We just chat and have fun basically. Today I'm at my boy's school and the nurse is HILARIOUS. She and I have the same sense of humor, so it helps and we just chat.

Maybe a breakfast feast? So they won't be taking it home and can eat it there.
  22. Ha... nostalgia for me. If you have a way, ask for resources from your Head Nurse, depending on the area, there's usually programs that do free vision or hearing screenings. I would ask around universities, the department of health or even nurses in your district. When I did my screenings in my old job, I would set it up during PE time, and have 2 volunteer parents, a vision screener and me, using the locker rooms. We would pull 5 at time, and screen one kid and send it to the next room. and just keep doing it until the whole class is done. Talk to your admin team and come up with a plan. Wish you luck!

Mine is still getting used to me, but he feels embarrassed to see me. I kinda like to mess with him, a bit... Yup! I agree, and it shows a lot. I keep getting compliments on how well I can self manage a clinic without supervision with my experience, so after the first day, they basically just let me loose. The nurses always are super nice and happy to see me because I lift the burden for them a lot. They do either paperwork or manage the clinic, and I do the leftover option. THank you!

Hey pals and gals, I'm back! Just wanted to say hi and introduce my new job. I am now a Clinical Assistant to a school district where my children go to. I graduated from the district too, so it helps out that I know the schools and such. So far, it's hard work, doing the typical stuff I did in my old job, but this time I'm not by myself. I am currently working with RNs and I love them all. I am in a float position, so each day I go to different schools, which in total I got to 6 schools, all elementary. I got to choose what age group and that's what I choose. I get to visit my boy's school too, so that's fun sometimes. As of right now, I'm also part of a screening team, where all the CAs are separated into teams and put to a bunch of schools for two days out of the week until the end of October, and we just screen. It's gone really well, and fast! I honestly wish I had this in my last job. Here's hoping for the best!
