It took me a year and few months to get an actual nursing job. My first job was per diem with an agency at an adult daycare facility. Then came flu shots with mollen. Then finally i got an med-surg/tele job at an hospital in philly. It was a sad an depressive time. But i eventually got one. Get a job where u can..even if its not where u want

i have applied to Mount. Sinai since i first received my NY license back in 10. I just kept applying online 3 positions at time. like every 2months. i had gone to career fairs. the recruiter had said that she thought she saw my resume at some point from one of the fairs. but at that time i was fresh out of school looking for jobs everywhere i can think of. i am one year 2 months into med-surg/tele i had applied recently it wasnt for the position i wanted but... they called me one day for interview. i went.. interviewed and was hired same day!!! from what i can see.. i am going to love Mount sinai and cant wait to start!! i didnt not have the feeling i had when i started my first job.. i was desperate and needed to get my foot in door, even if it wasn't my dream job. Mount Sinai, NYC my dream job and dream city!! i cant wait to start. all i have to say.. is 1. Don't give up. if you get a job, but not where u want, go for it, get the experience 2. Go to career fairs that will have the hospital you want to work at 3. show that you are willing to go great lenghts that you want that job! i live in south jersey, originally from noth jersey. i went all the way to NYC to interview, that shows alot. 4. stop by recruitment office and personally hand them your resume so they can see you, put a face to your online resume. are you new RN?

hello fellow nurses. i wanted to get some insight in nursing at mount sinai medical center. what is is like, nurse:patient ratio on med-surg unit. what is night shift like? etc please fill me in. ty

I don't think you can work as a nursing assistant still. definitely call BON..

keep searching, i was in the same boat in NJ/PA. i graduated from PA with bsn back in december 2009, got my license in nj, pa, ny in 2010. wasnt able to find an acute care hospital job till march of 2011. i was working the flu shot clinic with mollen, and this agency at an adult day care facility which was sporadic. dont give up, you will get that job!!! keep your head up and dont quit, you didnt go through school for nothing, it might feel like that right now, i been through the emotions your going through, so i understand. best of luck to all of you. maybe consider changing location? Peace Corps? Army?

thanks for the response everyone.. i am definitely going! cant wait. the swelling has decrease due to home remedy of peroxide gargle at site... noticeable decrease in swelling. i will let you all know how it went.

Sigh....I have an interview tomorrow at this hospital I use to extern at. The manager called me and told me she finally received clearance to hire 3 more rn. But now out of all the weeks I have been unemployed my mouth decides to play a game on me this week. I have periodontitis my right lower jaw is swollen and in pain...I started abx and pain meds yesterday.. I'm still going for interview if my face doesn't go down should I tell them to excuse my plump face or just go with it normally?

i agree with the above. i thought CPR class said that you never delay cpr.. it might take a lil for the aed to be ready.

maybe all new grad should apply to a Compact License state near their home state. This way if and when you get licensed in that compact state, your license will carry to other states who are part of compact licenses. here is the link Map of NLC States look into this. dont know if its going to work the way i am thinking it will work.. but read up on it

tyler.. why are you so bitter? People are stressed out just looking and not finding a job. They do not need your negative commentary. If you have nothing good to say, then better not say anything at all because your only making yourself look like an a**. i have gone to places only to be turned down by the "gatekeeper". they tell me that i need to apply online (as if i don't know that). I was just trying to show my face and hopefully strike gold talking to someone other than the receptionist. even when i call them i get the same response. at least they tell me what i can and can't apply to. at this point im lost as to what to do.

i know how u feel.. this is definitely a trying time.. but keep your faith up.. i know i am trying to.. something will come up.. i mean we cant be unemployed with a degree forever right? i think what is killing us is the waiting for that one phone call. this too shall pass.. cheer up..

I think you should just go apply like you would normally for the first time.. in the interview you can probably mention that when the time is appropriate for it..

thanks for input... will remember it..i just thought people said to keep being persistent. i haven't submitted aps for same position that i know not to do.. i have done the calling and some meetings.. idk wut to do anymore.. i think im cooling off from job hunt for couple of days..

well i have applied on the website.. faxed it in..emailed.. i think im going to keep emailing and faxing for the specific job they have posted. i mean every other day i see new job that new grads can apply to but idk.. at this point just apply apply apply..i even called and left a message and havent got a called back.

ok.. im a new nurse.. and i have seen experienced nurses do lots and lots and lots of work. It is not an easy job... you have so much to deal with at once. the nurses i have come across work their asses off (excuse my language) everyday...not counting those lazy nurses (trust me i have noticed those too). i don't know if your a nurse or not.. but you shouldn't assume nursing as not being "that HARD" of a job unless you have placed yourself in a Rn's shoes.

i was nurse extern as part of my co-op nursing program. worked at this one hospital for one year... this was back in 07-08 though..and they are on hiring freeze right now..

honestly with the hesi it doesn't matter how much of the core material you know or how much you study. the key to passing hesi is getting used the question style. hesi is all about test taking. when you practice questions... try to pick the question apart. look for key words that would link to the answer.. use process of elimination. that helped me a lot. Get all the math questions correct.. Know how and when a nurse is allowed to delegate care to lpn and UAP.. Therapeutic communication was also big on hesi too. and most importantly DO NOT CHANGE YOUR ANSWER..

im interested in it too but right now i don't think they are doing new grad program.. best thing to do is check back constantly

Hey this for the people looking for rn jobs. I don't know if anyone came across tweetyjobs.com but i signed up for it and found lots of places looking for new grad nurses. when you search jobs put in new grad nurse.. lots and lots of places looking throughout the country.. don't know how recent they are but its some place to start looking.

i have nj license. applied for it 6/28 and just got it 7/28... well they cleared my check on 7/2

yes i did.. the illustrated study guide for NCLEX RN?? i loved it. i found it easier to understand and read. i loved the pictures and memory cards here and there throughout the book.
