Best online RN to BSN program
I'm an ICU RN with 3+ years experience, but I "only" have my associates degree. Now I need my Bachelors. sigh. I want a quick and cheap, RN to BSN program online. Or somewhere in Ann Arbor MI. I've been looking into Western Governors University as they seem to meet my requirements. Anyone have any experience with them. Any other programs I should know about? any ideas? thanks, cc

I'm moving to Ann Arbor job search help/advice
Hey all, I'll be moving to AA in mid March 2014. I have been applying to st joes, the VA and UMHS. So far I've only had a video skype type interview with the VA, but didn't get the position. My last day at my now previous job was Monday and I'm starting to, well, be a bit concerned that no one has contacted me for any positions at all. Though I've been applying for months and have an MI license. I'm not a new grad. I have been an ICU RN since 2011 and an RN since 2010. I do have an associates degree (I know I know) and SJMHS and UMHS both are a scrabbling for the golden ring of magnet status which makes me not the most attractive candidate.... So, Do I stand any sort of chance of getting a position at UMHS (my first choice)? Or SJMHS? And if it's going to be a while before I can work there, where else should I be looking? Arbor hospice? Some drug company? Home infusion companies? I am getting ready to cast a wide net here, because I need to be working sooner rather than later. My 7 month old needs her rent paid! Any advice would be great. Thanks

Ann Arbor hospital benefits questions...
Looked into the UMHS contract: Level C with 4 years as an RN=$28.21/hour. Down from $40.18, ouch. I sure hope that midwest quality of life (and cost of living) make up for it. assuming I can find a job of course... thanks!

Ann Arbor hospital benefits questions...
Hello everyone, I'm an NY ICU RN who'll be moving to Ann Arbor in early March. My wife and I just had our first baby and we need to be near in-laws. Same old story. She's great though, that baby. One of my main concerns with moving is getting health benefits asap. In past jobs-o-mine its always taken three months before the benefits kicked in. A recruiter for the UMHS said their benefits kick in on your start. Does anyone know how benefits at Saint Joes and the VA are doled out? any other advice to a new dad brooklyn RN moving to Ann Arbor? thanks and lotsa love, cc

Mac users' experiences with ECCO
hey all, Just started ICU training this week (finally!! a dream job!!) and part of my orientation involves completing online training with AACN's ECCO. Unfortunately the specs for ECCO claim it will only work on PCs, these same specs do seem a bit outdated and, I am wondering what *your* personal experience has been with ECCO, especially if you are a apple/mac user. don't want to have to buy a new machine (even a "cheap" netbook) if I can avoid it..don't have the first paycheck yet.. (seems odd that a web based application/program would be system specific...) anyway would love to hear what ECCO was like for you. Thanks everyone, --cc

Embarrassingly simple question that has me confused...
hi, am practicing for an upcoming med math quiz and ran across a question re IV flow rates on this site (q #7) that has me confused..Here it is: 7. Your patient has an order to receive 800 units of Heparin per hour by continuous intravenous infusion. If the pharmacy mixes the IV bag to contain a total of 5,000 units of Heparin in 500 ml of D5W, how many cc's per minute should the patient receive? The answer they give is 80 cc's/minute... But, wouldn't that give the pt 800 units Heparin per minute? The answer I came up with is: 1.3 ml/minute. here's how: 5,000 units per 500 ml = 10 units per ml. 800 units per hour divided by 60 minutes=13.3 Units per minute. so, 1.3ml per minute = 13.3 units per minute x 60 minutes per hour =798 units per hour. feel like I am missing something obvious. or the site is wrong. I vote the latter. thanks for the help. (any way to post this anonymously)

Should a unemployed RN volunteer at A hospital to 'get their foot in the door'?
Hi, am a new grad as of June 10, licensed in July '10, cum laude, humanitus award, blah blah. Am very excited to get my first nursing job, but have been having a hard time getting any interviews, or responses even from potential employers, sometimes they won't even take my resume. Would it be a good idea to volunteer at the hospital where I want to work (they have called me to come in for a volunteer interview)? Or would it be considered tacky or too desperate? I know I likely won't get actual 'good' M/S experience, but maybe it'll help? maybe? FYI-this is at Methodist in brooklyn. and the NY job market is saturated. where is a new grad to supposed to get a job/relocate to? Thanks for any help/answers! -GPS

Another loan repayment option: NELRP (if you feel queasy about working in the penal machinery which houses the worlds largest incarcerated population).
