  1. Recert FNP-C in Texas (Help Please)

Yes, it makes sense that requirements are waived for the initial licensure renewal. I was only commenting on the confusion between recertifying and state licensure renewal by the OP.
  2. Recert FNP-C in Texas (Help Please)

I think you are confusing FNP recertification and renewing your APRN licensure. They are two separate requirements for practice. Renewing your license with the state BON is every 2 years and requires 20 ceus plus 400 practice hours during the previou...
  3. DEA issue

In Texas, you get prescriptive authority from the BON then you and the physician complete the delegation with the medical board. Once the delegation is complete, you apply for DPS and then finally your DEA number. DPS is still required and you must ...
  4. Clinical commute

In the Houston area there should be no need to drive that far for clinicals. What area of town are you in and what school are you attending? PM me if you want and I may be able to assist.
  5. Fitzgerald Review?

There are many threads on this subject, so I would search this site for more information. I went with the online and CD reviews because I could complete them at my own pace and rewatch as needed. I did Fitz and Hollier online and also listened to Bar...
  6. APRN co-own business - Texas

I would try the Texas Medical Board. As smd2521 posted, we were told in class that NPs are not allowed to partner with MDs in Texas.
  7. Diabetes screening at local Walmart

Neither test requires fasting, but the A1c takes closer to 10 minutes for results. Since individuals shopping would be unlikely to want to wait 10 minutes for results, the random glucose would be more appropriate for that setting.
  8. Figuring out pay

    California...the bankrupt state:arghh:
  9. Background

I believe for employment background checks potential employers can only see convictions and not arrests. State boards can see everything.
  10. How would you interpet this order?

It really has to do with the hospital interpretation of the order, but if the practitioner really wants it to be every 12 hours then he/she should write q12h.
  11. BS in psychology and pursuing ADN

Getting you ADN is not at all a waste if that's how you need to get your nursing degree. I would definitely think about doing an RN-BSN at some point though so you will have more choices of employment.
  12. CC to university transfer question

Yes, there are 4 semesters of nursing in both BSN and ADN, so if you are able it makes sense to go directly for the BSN. Doing an ADN is usually driven by family, economics, proximity, etc.
  13. CC to university transfer question

If you are going directly into the university nursing program and have finished all prereqs/general ed as required by the specific university, it should take only 2 more years at the university.
  14. What am I qualified to do? OTHER THAN FLOOR NURSING!!

I agree with previous post...nurse educator would likely be a good fit for you.
  15. New grad offer, need input

25-30 patients in 7 hours is 14-17 minutes per patient without taking a break. I agree with prior posts. You will be working like a mad-person and the productivity bonus is completely ridiculous.
  16. Formulating PICO question

Population: individuals undergoing chemo Intervention: dietary changes (more specific?) Comparison: no dietary changes/chemo only Outcome: survival rate In patients undergoing chemo, do those who have dietary changes included as part of their treatme...
  17. Nursing Diagnosis Help

There should be several "at risk for" diagnoses you can use for a post-op patient with no kidneys. You don't need any lab results for those. Also, the pain diagnosis that you started out with is always a priority after surgery so that one is fine too...
  18. Help! i need examples of case study nursing process

Just pick a chief complaint and go from there. You can do it!
  19. I agree. Do some pre-reqs at a 2-year college to establish a good gpa and then your high school gpa won't matter.
  20. Nursing Diagnosis Help

I am thinking fluid and electrolytes. How would these be affected?
  21. Why to give fat-soluble vitamins for cholecystitis

    Welcome:)
  22. Why to give fat-soluble vitamins for cholecystitis

Yes, can't absorb the vitamins as well because of decreased bile and decreased absorption of fats, so are at risk for deficiency.
  23. Why to give fat-soluble vitamins for cholecystitis

I think you answered your own question!
  24. Lonestar-Kingwood Immunizations

If you are pretty sure you haven't the hep B vaccines, just start the series and get the titers for the others.
  25. No way you should volunteer that...just explain there were some unfortunate circumstances that prevented you from getting your license initially...personal circumstances and now you are thankful and excited to be starting your nursing career.
