Yes, it makes sense that requirements are waived for the initial licensure renewal. I was only commenting on the confusion between recertifying and state licensure renewal by the OP.

I think you are confusing FNP recertification and renewing your APRN licensure. They are two separate requirements for practice. Renewing your license with the state BON is every 2 years and requires 20 ceus plus 400 practice hours during the previous 2 years as previously posted.

In Texas, you get prescriptive authority from the BON then you and the physician complete the delegation with the medical board. Once the delegation is complete, you apply for DPS and then finally your DEA number. DPS is still required and you must submit your DPS number when applying for your DEA number. Starting September 1 of this year, the dps will no longer be required.

There are many threads on this subject, so I would search this site for more information. I went with the online and CD reviews because I could complete them at my own pace and rewatch as needed. I did Fitz and Hollier online and also listened to Barkley CDs. If I had to choose one, I would probably choose Hollier. I think the online Hollier review combined with Fitz and Leik review books is a good way to go.

I would try the Texas Medical Board. As smd2521 posted, we were told in class that NPs are not allowed to partner with MDs in Texas.

Neither test requires fasting, but the A1c takes closer to 10 minutes for results. Since individuals shopping would be unlikely to want to wait 10 minutes for results, the random glucose would be more appropriate for that setting.

Getting you ADN is not at all a waste if that's how you need to get your nursing degree. I would definitely think about doing an RN-BSN at some point though so you will have more choices of employment.

Yes, there are 4 semesters of nursing in both BSN and ADN, so if you are able it makes sense to go directly for the BSN. Doing an ADN is usually driven by family, economics, proximity, etc.

If you are going directly into the university nursing program and have finished all prereqs/general ed as required by the specific university, it should take only 2 more years at the university.

I agree with previous post...nurse educator would likely be a good fit for you.

There should be several "at risk for" diagnoses you can use for a post-op patient with no kidneys. You don't need any lab results for those. Also, the pain diagnosis that you started out with is always a priority after surgery so that one is fine too.

Just pick a chief complaint and go from there. You can do it!

I agree. Do some pre-reqs at a 2-year college to establish a good gpa and then your high school gpa won't matter.

No way you should volunteer that...just explain there were some unfortunate circumstances that prevented you from getting your license initially...personal circumstances and now you are thankful and excited to be starting your nursing career.
