Getting you ADN is not at all a waste if that's how you need to get your nursing degree. I would definitely think about doing an RN-BSN at some point though so you will have more choices of employment.

Yes, there are 4 semesters of nursing in both BSN and ADN, so if you are able it makes sense to go directly for the BSN. Doing an ADN is usually driven by family, economics, proximity, etc.

If you are going directly into the university nursing program and have finished all prereqs/general ed as required by the specific university, it should take only 2 more years at the university.

There should be several "at risk for" diagnoses you can use for a post-op patient with no kidneys. You don't need any lab results for those. Also, the pain diagnosis that you started out with is always a priority after surgery so that one is fine too...
