I've changed my major
I finished my pre-reqs last semester and was signed up for A&P 1 and 2 this summer with plans of applying for the ADN program in July. I've been dreading A&P's and quite frankly dreading the nursing program. I've realized that I'm just really not that interested in one-on-one healthcare. I suppose the $ and job availability pulled me in, but I know myself and I know that even if I made it through NS I'd be unhappy being a nurse. That's not fair to me or the patients. All along I've known that I want to work with children (I own a daycare now) so I've decided to major in Admin. of Justice. None of my pre-reqs are wasted (except computer literacy, but I needed it anyway ) and I will graduate with my AS in May 07. Next fall I'll start my BA program in ADJU. It meets 1 night a week for 18 months. I hope to work in Child Protective Services or the Juvenile court system. Anyway, I just wanted to touch base with the friends I've made here & wish everyone happiness & good luck :)

Anyone getting ready for a chemistry final?
My Intro to Chem final is 5/16. We had our last exam Thursday, have 2 more classes (new material!) and then the final. Our instructor is great though. He lets us use a 3x5 index card for a "cheat sheet" for the exams and is going to let us have 4 index cards or a 8.5x11 piece of paper (front & back) for the final. I'm going with the piece of paper! Good luck everyone :)

Service for Research Paper
My college does too. My lit. instructor said that it was an automatic F for the semester if the program detected plagarism and she verified it.

What happens if you dont get in?????
At my school there is no wait list. You keep reapplying. They have a day (starts in spring) & evening (starts in fall) program. You have to have pre-req's and a 2.0 GPA to apply, but after that acceptance is totally based on NLN scores. I'm applying in July for the evening program that'll start in Spring 07 and if I don't get in I'll apply in Feb. for the day program that'll start in Fall 07. If I'm still not in I'll either look into the LPN program more or change my major and get a BA in Administration of Justice. I'm done with pre-reqs and next fall I'll be taking classes for my BA (hopefully for nursing), but they're the same classes (arts, foreign language, economics) that I'll need for a BA in AofJ.

Anyone out there NOT good at math but aced Chem?
I'm the opposite. I'm in College Algebra with an A and have made A's in all math courses leading up to this point. I'm also taking Intro to Chemistry this semester and am trying to hold onto a B (84%). The conversions are just not clicking with me . So I can't say that algebra has helped me. I understand that you put what you want to get rid of on the bottom of the equation so it will cancel out, but when you throw in moles, grams, mass, etc. I get confused.

Summer classes or take time off to study for NLN?
I'll be taking my NLN test the end of July and was planning on taking A&P 1 + 2 this summer. They're co-req's so I can apply in July without having taken them, but that means if I get in I'll have them along with my nursing courses. I've been looking over my NLN study guide and I'm ok with the math, but I REALLY need to study the science section and try to complete the reading comprehension section quicker. I could- a.) Take the summer off to study b.) Take both classes & squeeze in NLN study time with A&Ps c.) Take A&P 1 and have July off to study What would you do? BTW, I have a 4 year old son, but I'm not working outside the home.

A&P Summer 06'
I'm taking both A&P 1 & 2 this summer too. Should be a fun 8 weeks Most summer classes are broken up into A & B sessions. I'm taking A&P 1 in A session (June) and 2 in B session (July).

Spending the Benjamins
No special purchases here. I'm going to enjoy the feeling of being able to save more $ after paying bills.

How many applicants are you "competing" against?
At my small town school they test twice a year (1 day program & 1 evening). Acceptance into the nursing program is all based on your NLN score. The day program for this fall had their NLN test this past weekend and there were 104 people that tested. They choose 15 of the top in-district scores & 15 out of district scores to be in the program. I was thinking the odds (15/104) aren't that great, but when you consider out of the 104 who knows how many are out of district applicants and I'm not competing against them. So what are the odds at your school?

A&P 1 & 2 during the summer, good or bad idea?
Thanks for the responses :) I'm still debating it. I wouldn't be taking them together (impossible to do anyway). I would only have one class at a time to focus on and I don't work outside the home (I'm a SAHM of a 4 yr old). I take my NLN test in July and thought that knowing some A&P would be to my advantage before testing. On the other hand, if I take the summer off I could study more for the NLN test. Registration is a month away, so I'll ponder it some more. Thanks!

Where is everyone from?
I'm 31, from southeast MO and am a SAHM of a 3 yr old. I'm finishing up my pre-reqs in order to apply this summer for the spring 07 ADN program. I started college fresh out of HS, did horribly, & now that I have my head on straight (a family will do that too ya ), I'm back at it.

A&P 1 & 2 during the summer, good or bad idea?
Our summer schedule just came out and they offer A&P 1 M-Th from 1-5pm during the A session (6/1-6/28) and A&P 2 (same hours) in the B session (6/29-7/31). Has anyone taken both A&P's during the summer? I could also take my Micro during the B session (9-12:30), but I think that would be pushing it! :chuckle It's tempting though since it's all I have left to take.

Deciding on a plan A and a backup...
I'm currently taking pre-reqs at a CC in order to apply to the ADN program. I just need to get though Chemistry this semester & then I'm eligible to apply. Here you can apply twice a year. Acceptance is entirely based on your NLN test results. They accept 15 in district students & 15 out of district students for each program our of about 100-150 applicants. Application deadlines are in July for the evening program & in February for the day program. My original plan was to apply in July for the Spring 07 evening program. I still need A&P 1 and 2 & Micro and could take them during the summer/fall before entering the program in the spring. This way I could focus 100% on the nursing course. The downfall of this plan would be that my son is in preschool in the mornings & I would be at school/clinicals at night. Then I thought about waiting until next Feb. & applying for the day program that would start Fall 07. It would give me more cushion in getting in those A&P and Micro classes. Plus, DS would be in kindergarten all day & our schedules would work together nicely. On the other hand, I'm not sure I want to pass up applying this July because if I don't get in I could re-apply in Feb. As if that wasn't enough to think about, I'm learning more about our local LPN program. It starts this fall, lasts 11 months and the application deadline is March 15th. Admission is based on a pre-entrance test & an interview. Last year they had a 96% pass rate on the state board exam. I could then work as a LPN (though I'm not crazy about that) while bridging over to the RN program at night. The downside to this program is that it is M-F 8-3 and I would have to figure out a way to get DS to & from preschool (8:30-11:30) & then get a daycare until I get out at 3pm. I guess I'm really just thinking "out loud". I'm glad that I have several options, but just not sure what order my plans are in. How did you decide which was your plan A and which plan was your backup?

Beginning Algebra
I had beginning algebra last semester. I'm currently in intermediate/college algebra (8 wk. fast tracks) this semester. Check out http://www.interactmath.com. Pick which text book you're using and it will give you tons of practice problems.

Let's talk GPA
At my school you have to have a 2.0 in order to apply to the program. They choose the top 15 in district & the top 15 out of district students who score the highest on the NLN test to be accepted. Here someone with a 2.0 could get in & someone with a 4.0 wouldn't. It all depends on your NLN test score.

Chemistry 2006/ 2007 Club***
Our 1st exam is next Tuesday. He told us today that we're allowed to use a "cheat sheet". It has to be a 3x5 index card, but we can use the front & back. I'm going to be writing very tiny and abbreviating! So far we've learned about density/mass/volume, 12 of the elements, scientific notation, significant figures, chemical/physical properties and metric conversions. Ugh

Chemistry 2006/ 2007 Club***
Ditto I'm hating this class now. It doesn't help that it's 8-11am and my teacher is sooooo dull. We have a quiz every Tuesday (get to use notes so that's a +) and a lab the 2nd 1/2 of every Thursday. I am just so not interested in the subject. Come on May!
- I Passed!

Chemistry 2006/ 2007 Club***
Add me to the list too :) I'm taking Introductory Chemistry on T & TH. We had our 1st lab today. It was called CSI Investigation. A murder occured and there was a white substance found under the body. We were given 5 suspects & had to solve for the murderer. Kinda interesting.

First week back! How did yours go?
Today was my first day back. Introductory Chemistry - 30 yr old male teacher that seemed very nervous but nice. I think the material will be challenging for me. Intermediate/College Algebra (8 wk fast tracks) - I had the teacher last semester & LOVE her! She used to teach GED classes and explains things well although by glancing through the book, I have a lot to learn. National & State Gov't - it's 100% online & the teacher states in her syllabus "no use of notes during exams". Yeah right! LOL. She does grade on a curve so that's good. If I can get though Chemistry I'll be happy :)
