  1. Why do you think it makes it look like it was the same bedpan you put her on when she arrived? You documented what the contents looked like, therefore you took her off the bedpan. Or do you look at the contents and chart them and leave the person sitting on the bedpan?
  2. Ageism exists in nursing. There is prejudice against older nurses by some, including other nurses. Some think that older nurses can't or don't critically think, etc. I have heard educators make disparaging remarks about long time nurses during orientation and during in services, etc. Some employers may not want to hire older workers because they think use of health care and work comp claims may go up, increasing the employer's costs.

I was told years ago as an LPN student, during nursery rotation, that the charge nurse said I acted as if I was totally uninterested in the babies. Totally unfair!! Who doesn't love babies? Interesting thing, a couple of years later I bought a sewing machine and guess who was now working in the sewing machine business along with her husband? That same charge nurse. I was working as an LPN. I have now been an RN for 32 years.
  4. Legally, the employer may have to accommodate you, but don't be surprised if there are issues with other staff. I was a floor nurse, and was floated into a 4 bed unit, with another RN. I was not familiar with the unit, and not particularly comfortable working there. The other RN went into a room, closed the door, and pumped for a lengthy period of time while I was stuck being responsible for her patients as well as mine. I do not have positive feelings toward people pumping at work, or anything else for that matter. I think people should come to work to work.
  5. I guess, if I re-read your posts, it sounds like you're backpedaling.

  7. Why come on here and ask? Contact the Maryland BON and ask them!
  8. I don't think anybody is about to quit just to please you. By the way, judgmental much?
  9. Sometimes people forget things (being human), ask again if you don't get something in a timely fashion. I wouldn't wait 3 hours and then complain about it.
  10. I hope you refused to do it thereafter then, since it was outside of your scope of practice. :roll
  11. What do they do in the ER for a toothache? Don't they just tell them to call a dentist?
  12. who is he talking about, the nurses?

I wonder about that, the meal trays leaving the room. If it lives on environmental services for days, then it must be on the tray, the flatware, etc. Of course, they will all be washed shortly in hot water, but what about the workers who handle the trays, that are not wearing gloves? Isn't there a potential for spreading it around there? Also, the cart that the dirty trays are put in and then later clean ones are placed in, how are the carts cleaned between meals? If the trays aren't picked up before the cart leaves, they are left in a dirty utility room. Another chance for spread. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, I guess I must be missing something.
  16. That should not be allowed to happen, laws against illegal immigration should be enforced, and maybe it's time to close the borders, in fact it's past time, in my opinion. Illegals should be deported back to their own countries. This is not the United States of Mexico or of any other spanish speaking country.
  17. The whole thing is tragic. She had her "first kid at 13 by her 27 yr boyfriend", was he her boyfriend or a child molester?
  18. What is "a pre-hospital RN license"?
  19. not necessarily. for instance, i recently encountered one witch of an rn that follows my shift, who either snubs people or verbally attacks out of the blue. there are some really dysfunctional people out there and they are not all on the other side of the bed.
  20. Those jobs are few and far between and hard to get. After all, everyone wants one right? and there are only so many to go around. Also, in the hospitals, if there are good places to work, it's hard to get on there too, if people have a good job they tend to stay.
