So discouraged and ready to quit
Very normal indeed. I was 45 when I started back to school. Husband traveled , I child still at home. So I can really sympathize with all your frustrations. I wish I could tell you it will get easier once in the program ...but it doesn't. I will tell you what helped me the most through it all....learning to set priorities and boundries. You deserve this for yourself...and it is going to mean TONS of sacrifice from your entire family to get you through it. But stand firm and keep your goal in sight EVERY day. It is okay if your life becomes a little less perfect, a few chores do not get done.....dinner is sandwiches more often. As one of the other posters said...having support and REALLY having support are different. What I do when everyone around me begins to "feel the stress" is remind them it is only for a season. In the long run you are setting a VERY good example for your family. Hang on ....and stay with it!!

Is it smart to work as both CNA and a RN(associates degree)?
After you receive your degree as an RN , you could not work as a CNA, for 2 reasons I can think of 1. no one would pay or hire an RN as a CNA 2. working as a cna you would still be held to the same liability as an RN

Oh how can I pass when 3 out of 4 answers seem correct
WOW thanks ....i am one month in also and am having trouble with some of these kinds of questions but seeing metricalpound's answer kind of clicked a light on for me!! I think my biggest problem has been "adding " to the questions or not really understanding what the answers are saying:)

Nursing School - Family HELP!!
I commend you also. I can barely function with very very PRN. On the other hand I truly believe it is very difficult for anyone who has not been through nursing school to REALLY understand what it REALLY takes to be in and complete nursing school. That being said, unfortunately most relationships do suffer in one way or another. I can only advise you to talk to your wife honestly and openly about your feelings. Then it is on her, and that is the hardest part.

Incompetent nursing assistants
Had to weigh in on this one as I am a CNA with 8 years experience and I will begin nursing school in the Fall. I have seen this trend with my own eyes..the CNA's lately have changed considerably. There is a lack of "professionalism" overall. I feel the training is adequate, however...it usually ends there. After training ...there are no CEU's or additional training. I think the position should pay more also...our pay in Texas ranges from 7.25-10.00...which is low when you consider that we really are the "frontline". You can make that working at McDonalds...I mean come on. There still are a few of us ..that give it every thing we have..and understand the importance of our job...but they are few and far between. I personally ...find it a HUGE incentive when I am working with a nurse that shows my position some respect...and listens when I do report something of concern... instead of "being bossy and too busy to listen to me".

Staying in LVN program
If it were me...I would continue. I will be starting my LPN program this August. I choose this route because ...if nothing else it is a stepping stone to higher degree programs....ADN, BSN,MSN ect. Good luck and hang in there!

I feel STUPID and incompetent. Need a shoulder!
Sounds to me like you need to give yourself a break. Obviously you would not have gotten this far...if you were incompetent. I this it is just a serious case of the jitters. Take a deep breath...relax...and GO GET THIS THING DONE girl!!!

Dark age testing policy
It is a very arcane procedure...however...cheating is rampant and all of these smart phones ect. have only added to the problem. Unfortunately...it does make it difficult for everyone else. Take comfort in the fact we are ALL in the same boat with you.

Weekend Only Nurse?
oops sorry I meant 6A-10P Saturday and Sunday. 2 years is an ADN degree for an RN. ( this is usually the nursing program itself)However, there are pre-reqs required and they differ in each college...usually adds a year or 2.

Drug Legalization
My only point is the same issue I have ALWAYS had with this debate....alcohol and tobacco for all their faults...are still LEGAL...it says alot about the personalities involved that pot is not. Yet they are still willing to take the "risk" associated , to indulge.

Pre Nursing Student Needs Advice and Encouragement!
I had to take Sociology, Life Span, Nutrition, Pharmacology, A&P 1/2, Microbiology, English 1/2, Art, Med Terminology 1/2, Intro to Health Professions, General Pyscology, College Algebra. I understand the family reference as I too will be the first in my family.....but ANYONE will tell you that in reality ADN is a four year degree, not 2. Because of all the pre-reqs. Give yourself a break...and focus on school.

OK Truth Time!! Who Else Had To Get Readers(Glasses) Yet???
Welcome to presbyopia....very common in your 40's. I have never once worn glasses, went to readers for the first 2 semesters. And went and got bifocals a year ago. Studying is much easier.....welcome to the club:)

Why did I decide to do this?
What I have discovered after 2 years and FINALLY beginning the program is .....that constant fear of failure is what keeps people like us pushing as hard as we can and giving it ALL we have ! Good Luck....and BREATHE!
