Staff meet and greet
When I interviewed for a manager position I asked, "What is the biggest challenge you face in doing your job and how would I be able to help if I'm in this position?" I asked this to about 7 people they all said pretty much the same thing.....staffing and consistency with applying "rules".....

Would wearing a sexy nursing outfit to a party disrespect the profession?
Private party: I would not be offended, but would differently not wear it myself, out of respect for all the work I so everyday to increase the level of professionalism in the field. I'm more concerned with the "sexy uniforms" I see on the wards".... just saying. let the flames begin :)

certified addictions nurse question
There is a new study guide for sale on the IntNSA web site, as well as a new test matrix. Be sure to include these in your study planning. I took the CARN-AP, true to all advance practice test it was very process oriented. The CARN is nursing care/treatment planning, safety and addiction as a disease. Best of luck. :) PS There is a review course every year at the IntNSA conference and IntNSA chapters often hold them across the country.

Goals & Objectives
I usually have something related to Safety &/or Orientation if identified as a need. Something like... Goal: free from self injury/harm- will id (or verbalize) triggers to self harm ....will seek safety zone when impulse to harm is noted Goal-zero forced meds: demonstrate compliance with medications Once you identify the needs or problems the patient can help you identify what they are willing to work on (if pt not actively psychotic)

Changing medication Forms
This the only statement from this states parctice act... "Implementing the treatment and pharmaceutical regimen prescribed by any person authorized by State law to prescribe the regimen." I'm seeking information as to when a nurse (RN &/or LPN) might change this "prescribed regimen" without consulting the person ordering it.... So for all I have is what are the facilities policy.. looks like we need to write some ?????? Thanks for everyones input.

CARN Test Preparation
IntNSA is updating the study guide. It should be available in the next month or so... Be sure to check out the test matrix it has changed quite a bit. NCFADS has a review course every summer in Wilmington, NC. You can check out that web site. Plus IntNSA has a review course every year at the conference. It will be in Washington, again this year. I took the CARN-AP this past fall, it was a lot of appication and critical thinking... not much in the way of strick "if this ...answer that" type questions. Best of look!!!!! faith

search me!
In patient psych hospital setting: Pt must change in to scrubs in admissions/screening where all clothes which will be taken to the ward are hand screached. Only five outfits , underclothes , socks etc are allowed. All other clothes & luggage are sealed in plastic bags labled and returned only after exiting the building at the time of discharge. All patients submit to a UDS on admission and if any reason to think they may have used for admission..... if there is reason to believe the patient has contraband lighter/matches, cigarettes &/or weapons or items that could be used as a weapon a search is completed if the patietn does not volunteer th item. My faclitiy completes 2or three post admission searchs/month.

what did you get for Christmas from your employer?
nothing

Working the holidays to get away from family...
Yes!!! If a co-worker wants to work a Holiday they can trade, but to have a schedule "fit" the single childless nurses in to give time off for "family" is just wrong. I had a "family" when I was single and still have one now that my child is grown. The schedule should be equal over time for Holidays. I see the humor in the cartoon, but having lost so many love ones (some on Holidays, such as Christmas) I cherish those special moments of stress and can now take comfort in them. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!

Certification in Addictions Nursing Promoting/Protecting the Health of the Public
IMOH: Having the CARN-AP in the addiction setting establishing a speciality for practice with a unique subpopulation with in the scope of the PMHNP. As for hoe muwc addiction related information is included on the PMHNP, I have no knowledge of the test make up. There Co-Occuring questions on the CARN-AP. I went this way first still looking at if the PMHNP would benefit me personally and professionally. Good look!!!!!
