Disappointed New Grad
Hi All, Im a new grad working in an community hospital where the population of patients is mental health. I currently finished my 6week orientation. We also are a teaching hospital where medical students are everywhere with charts:eek:. So the "new grads all work same shift and share 1preceptor (which I never expected it to be this way). So to make a long story short I dont really feel like I have learned to much, but Im not really sure, the clinical skills aspect I have. I work Med-surg so I have hung blood, CBI, started several IVs and Im fine with that. But what the preceptor does is she will so you a skill then after that if you have that skill again y ou do it on your own. Also if she shows you something you are responsible for showing the other mew grads. So in right now I work 8hrs then will soon start 12, the computer charting that we do on our own is not that difficult but the thing is that lately I have had 7-8 pts @ times 2-3 discharges/admissions so im having trouble balancing it all. I dont finish til 6 or 7p because preceptor is gone by 330p. Is this how it is everywhere? Will I eventually get the hang of things. I am very dissappointed in this hospital and myslf right now,but because I have to work I have to stay. This is the only hospital that gave me a shot. What should I do?

For those that took Kaplan
Yes i do think that kaplan is similar to boards. The instructor I had from kaplan told us that every few years when the nclex is "re-designed" kaplan is too. Kaplan is based off or geared towards nclex. When I was studying I made sure I completed all QT, and I also had the kaplan book. I studyed from saunders as well. Also once you finish a QT review ALL rationales to get the understanding of why you did or didnt pick the correct answer. Day before the test I did NOTHING but relax & PRAY. Remember GOD didnt bring you this far for nothing. Believe YOU CAN DO IT & YOU WILL!!!!

For those that took Kaplan
Hi I took Kaplan & the average I had on the QT was probably 60%. Saying that I think that you will be fine. I passed my nclex, I had 10-12 SATA 2math 3procedures i had to put in order. All that which kaplan prepared me for. Good Luck YOU CAN DO IT!

Pretty sure I failed the NCLEX-RN
Hi Gurmo, doesnt sound like you failed to me. try the pvt again and wait for official results. and dont worry about what other people think of your situation. the nclex exam changed april 1, making it more difficult so they dont know what we had to go thru. Hopefully you were sucessful, if not dont give up. God bless you future RN:D
