My nursing school was very open about who they use for background checks. Call the school your interested in, find out who they use and then run a background check on yourself. That should help ease your mind.

I am in the ASN program in Gary. We have to read 8 chapters in our Fundamentals book before the first day of class. Does anyone know - should I expect a test on it the first week? Thanks for the advice on the stethoscopes. I am going to mark mine today and make an effort to keep it with me at all times.

Seriously OP, did you ever think that maybe the "older" nurses are actually thinking about what they want to chart instead of just click, click, click? As you mature in years you will see that everyone has different ways of doing things and people work at different paces. From my past work experiences I can tell you that the person who quickly finishes their work and sits there smugly staring at everyone usually ends up talking a big fall. Do you know why? Because they don't know everything and just because they can do it quickly they may not be doing it properly and usually have only their interests in mind - not those of the team or in your case the patient. Btw, you say no one has enough time to help you when you need it. Certainly, you can see why. You need to become part of the team before you start commenting about what the other members of your team are doing. Good luck to you, I think you're going to need it.

I just had one done prior to entering nursing school this January. They had us use certifiedbackgrounds.com. They went back 7 years and check your last known addresses, SSN, sex offenders list, criminal background check, something with Homeland Security, and Medicare/Medicaid to see if you are on the list for defrauding them. I think it cost me around 80 bucks.

I don't know about endometriosis only but I know my gyne does not see pregnant women. So maybe a gyne doctor's office who specializes in gyne issues.

Don't forget about your cover letter. That will be the first thing your prospective employer sees so I would put those points in the cover letter.

If you have your heart set on working as an OR nurse I would do the surgical tech program first then go on to become an RN. Many OR's want experience and that would give you a leg up on the competition. If you are not set on working in surgery I would go directly to the RN program.

I'm taking a technical writing course and we just finished resumes. So yes, for a past job provided or assisted is fine. Current job - provide, assist.

I don't know if this is the order you have things listed in but the most recent item should be first. For example in your education list your MSN first, then BSN and last the ASN. Also do the same thing in your employment history. I had a bit of a time figuring that section out. Since you are currently employed as an clinical instructor put that first. In your past jobs section provide should be provided. (Provided total patient care) For the clinincal nurse job leave supervise as it is since you are currently supervising people. Make sure you leave spaces between sections so the resume looks nice and is easy to read. If you need to fill the page more list your education like this instead of all on 1 line: Associate of Science in Nursing, 2003 Northeast Iowa Community College City, State Also, don't forget your cover letter. I don't get it. You are now 100% sure you are an employee but your paychecks are bigger. Are they taking taxes out? If not, you are an independent contractor which I don't think meets the definition set by the IRS. The IRS has strict rules as to who is classified as an independent contractor. When I ran a DME business we had certain criteria we had to meet to call someone an IC. I suspect since they aren't giving you vacation, sick time, etc. that they may have made you an prn employee. If thats the case they are taking huge advantage of you. Take a look at your check and see if they are taking taxes out. That should tell you if you are an IC.

Take a good look at your resume. If you can have someone else proofread it and your cover letter. There may be an error in it which is causing them to turn you down. Good luck to you.

Hello. I am trying to figure out what type of licensing is necessary to be eligible to be a school nurse. The reason I ask is my son is a high school teacher in Indiana and their high school nurse is an EMT. I was under the impression that EMTS (in Indiana) are not allowed to dispense medications so I am curious how she is able to dispense a student's medication to them? Does anyone have any information about the requirements to be a school nurse, specifically in Indiana? Thanks so much for your time!

I always give the name of more than one Dr. with the one I favor being the first name out of my mouth. If there are any problems or negativity you can say you recommended 2 or 3 Drs. and patient made final choice. Also, I would not post anything along those lines on FB.

I think question 7 was asking something else. I read it as how do you open an item to give to the tech? In that case the answer would be that you do not open something on the mayo stand in case of contamination. You open on the back table.

My advice is to make one decision at a time. If working in the OR is your passion then go for the ST training first. If you go for RN first that doesn't guarantee that you will be hired in the OR as they may want experience but if you are a ST that's where you will work. As you progress with your training and clinicals and then work, you will be in a better position to make decisions regarding your future education.

In the area that I live after one semester of nursing school you can work as a nurse extern or nurse fellow. They allow for your student schedule and you can work when you have time off between semesters. I don't know how many they are hiring in this economy but it would be worth calling your local hospitals and asking.

Did you ask her why she does that? I would point it out on documentation she signed to the charge nurse.

At Ivy Tech in Indiana we are allowed to take it 3 times and you must wait at least 30 days between each test.

I would call the school your hoping to attend for nursing and see if they can send it to a school near you and they can proctor it for you. Good Luck.

Have you investigated how much longer it would take you to get a BSN? With all the classes you have taken for Bio I wouldn't think the BSN would be that much of a time difference compared to the ASN. Also I had a friend(BSN) who went for CRNA and if I remember correctly the school wanted a year of critical care experience before she could apply.
