No phones at clinical
Our school has a strict no personal electronics policy for class and clinical. I'm pretty bummed out because i wanted to use my iPod touch for clinicanls.

What does your uniform look like?
We have an all white uniform. They are not particular about the brand but it must be white and plain. Straight leg pants (no flair), v neck tunic (no buttons, ribbons, etc), white shoes (no open heal style), lab coat, we can wear a scrub jacket if we want. All tops need to have our patch on left hand sleeve. I just bought my uniform yesterday and I hate it. Ugh.

What do your study spaces look like?
Thanks! That's my iPad actually (but I can use it as a photo frame). Thanks for the tip I'll be sure to try it next time.

What do your study spaces look like?
This is my study area and the other side of the room has a Tread Climber for my workout area. (Dumb question: how do you guys make your pics big and in the text?)

which would be easier.
I think it would be best to go straight for the BSN. If you can't do that go for the ADN and if can't do that go for LPN. Aim for the highest level that you can do first it will save you time and money in the long run.

Is anyone commuting really far away?
My commute is about an hour away and I have to cross state lines lol. Weather wise there's not much going on except for rain.

lecture notes or nclex review book?
Ahh I just bought my saunders nclex book. Oh well. I am about to start nursing school on Aug 16th so I'm kinda bummed, but I'll still use mine to study during school.

what were the points for JDCC FALL 2010 ADMISSION?
I had an A in A&P 1 and 2 and in micro (90 pts) and a 97 on the compass reading. I only know one other person who got in and she had more points than me. I applied last semester with 147 points. I actually retook my compass reading test and improved it 10 points then had micro to pull me up to my current score. What classes do you have left?

I want to say that your school requires it because the hospitals do.

What is best? Living at home or getting an apartment while in nursing??
Ultimately you should do what feels right. I was in a similar situation. I was living on my own and I loved it. When I decided to go to nursing school I made the difficult decision to move back in with my parents. I did not want to deal with the stress of having to work as much as I did, and taking out loans to help pay for it was not something I wanted to do (I'm still paying off my student loan from my first degree). I'm 24 (25 next month) and yes there are times that feel like a giant loser, but it was the best decision for me. I consider myself fortunate that my parents live in the area and actually let me move back. I don't have to worry about bills (except for my storage unit for all of my apartment stuff that i miss). I don't have to work making is easier to focus on school. I even got convinced them to let me take over my brothers old room and tun it into my study area. We compromised and they put a new treadmill in it, but thats is also another benefit. I miss being on my own and being independent, but I just look at it as a two year sacrifice that helps me reach my goals.

Online Blood Test (Varicella Titer)
my school is pretty far away and my health department does not do them. Overall, i'm happy with my decision. I feel like I saved money.

Online Blood Test (Varicella Titer)
Just an update I decided to go ahead and order my test online. I used privatemdlabs.com it was $49.49, but i found a coupon code for 15% off (XB49W8) and the total came to $42.07. I went to the lab today and got my blood drawn and I should get the results in a couple of days.

Online Blood Test (Varicella Titer)
Has ordered a blood test online? I need a varicella titer and have called around trying to find a place to get it done. Most places will do it with a physicians order. I no longer have insurance and am on a budget. I saw that you can order the test online then go to the local lab its affiliated with to get the blood drawn and the results will be emailed to you. There are several sites that do this and the cost ranges from $42-$50. Has anyone done this before? What are you thoughts? The more I looked into it the more I think its something I will do, but I have doubts. Thanks!

Does anyone have homework already???
So far no homework and doubt that we will have any reading assignments before class (we start on the 16th registration is on the 12th-but who knows). But I am curious what type of programs you guys are in? maybe there's a correlation between program length and early assignments lol. I'm about to start a 5 semester ADN program.

I'm not sure what the cut off was. The only person I know who applied had more points than I did. As for classes, it seems like you only have class two days a week (monday and Tuesday) so that's not too bad. Plus, I'm sure you can find some one or a group to car pool with. I'll know more after aug 16 (my first day).

Nursing pack and watches
I am also starting the process of getting all of my stuff. I just bought my watch and I went with some advice on these boards about keeping it cheap because it's going to get gross. I went to target and bought a watch for $12.99. I'm such a nerd that bought one to match my stethoscope, so I have a bright orange watch with a large face and the band is rubber so it's really easy to wipe with alcohol.

Just an update. I got into the jdcc program for this fall! I had 187 points. Courtlane143, From what I heard pjc's program is still an ADN program they are adding and ADN-BSN program though. So that's why they probably aren't adding more seats. Again this is just what I heard. Makes me feel a little better because I would be annoyed if I missed an opportunity to go straight for the BSN, although I am confidant that I made the right choice to go to jdcc (only time will truly tell haha). Good luck!

Sketchers
After reading all of the great things you all had to say about sketchers shape ups i think that I am probably going to get a pair. I have one question though did you buy just the regular shape ups or the ones for work? I think the main difference is the slip resistant bottoms.

What date do you start Nursing school?
I guess I was just spoiled by my first college experience. I could register well in advance and professors posted books and it linked to the school bookstore so I could compare. Now I'll be attending a tiny school where there is only one day to register (not even a full week before class) and I actually have to go up to school to do so (I live an hour away). I'm excited about my program I have heard amazing things about it which is why I chose it over the adn program 20 min away, but this is a bit frustrating.

What date do you start Nursing school?
I start on August 16th! I'm really excited, but by the sounds of your replies I feel a little behind lol. So far i bought Saunders NCLEX review book and my Stethoscope is on the way. Other then that I have been focusing on the 'paper' side (making sure i have all immunizations, physical, CPR cert, and TB test). I get the results of my TB test on Monday and after that I can focus on the supplies. I really wish i knew the books I need so I can get started on that. I feel like my school pressures us to only get things from their bookstore (what school doesn't) for example our first day the schedule says from 12pm-1pm Bookstore--books, packets, and supplies. Is anyone else's school like this? I know that they have to provide the IBSN numbers by Registration. Registration is on AUG 12th and I just don't feel like there's a lot of time to shop around. Anyway, sorry if I'm rambling. Congrats to all of you!

Hi guys! I love this thread it has been very helpful. I applied to JDCC last semester (to start in the spring 2010) and did not get in with a score of 145. I finished up Micro and retook the compass test and now have a score of 187 and if this score doesn't get me in (Fall 2010) i don't know what will. I live in Pensacola and i considered PJC, but decided against it. I have a few questions/concerns 1. Do you alternate campuses (brewton/atmore) every semester? (it seems like you do but i'm not sure) 2. Has anyone requested where to have clinicals (brewton/pensacola,jay)? Sniper1 mentioned that you are pretty much stuck with where they assign you and it bummed me out a bit because much of my decision was based on the fact that i would only have to drive up there twice a week. 3. Study groups yay or nay? 4. I would love to get a 'typical day being a nursing student' Thanks again! jules
