Hey from one "trashy blonde" to another....run while you can. Serously I dye my hair blond, and if my...no let me correct that.....if anyone called me trashy I would tell them to mind their own business. You are most definately doing the right thing by leaving.

I too wear my wedding rings...one I wash them frequently (as well as my hands) and alcohol gel them. Two if you are concerned with damage/losing them put them on your hoouse insurance, that's what I did with mine, god forbid I lose a diamond or whatever my insurance will take care of it.

I work in LTC, I am a LPN and I do exactly the same thing as the RN's with the exception of putting in an IV. I can pronounce, give meds, hang IV"s (just not put them in), tube feeds...all of it) But each facility is different in what a LPN is able to do.

This person was going to die whether you gave the morphine or not, by giving the morphine you made that person that much more comfortable. Quit beating yourself up, you were in that person's life at one of their most precious moments and helped them.

I agree with taking a break, she is probably too frustrated right now to take it, it will just set her up for another heartbreaking failure...but don't give up. The NCLEX is hard, it has so many answers that seem right, but (as you know) you have to pick the best one. Just keep up the encouagement, she can do this. And as far as "imbeciles" I know what you mean I have had some fellow students that you wonder how they tie their shoes in the morning et alone pass nursing school. And I have seen some really incredibally book smart people that absolutely cannot apply it to the floor work. Take care and good luck! :)

I agree is is just make believe, but I like to take the comedic look at it and laugh at all the weird things that they screw up or don't even do right and laugh at it. :)

I usually have about 25 residents (first shift) and on a good day yes I am out of there on time....On a busier day sometimes I am out on time (if I cut my breaks short) and sometimes I am over a bit charting. But we try to help eachother so that we can get out of there on time. And yes we do all our own charting, meds and treatments. I also carry my "brains" (scrap paper) in my pocket and I write down things, so that later in the day I can chart everything.

When I have had residents do try to give me stuff, I accept it from that resident then I go to the DON and tell her what happened, I have had a A&Ox3 resident give me a Christmas present and since she is in her right mind I was told I may keep it. Any change or money I have put it in the resident fund. This way the resident isn't offended by me turning down a gift and I'm not actually taking it.

Well at my facility yeah some of us can get an attitude...depends on the day and how much is being dumped on us by higher up nurses and if we have residents that have taken a turn ..that type of thing. But for the most part I think we do alot of laughing with eachother and our residents. We try to keep the attitude in check, because it isn't the residents faults that they are there and we are suddenly having a cra**Y day.

I use lots of lubricant, which I try get all along the edges of the stoool i feel. I wear 2 gloves (nothing worse than finding my glove broke), very gently with my index finger I break up the stool and pull it out, being carefull not to disrupt the tissue of the rectal area. Can be a very tedious job I find, because I am careful and because I work in a nursing home and have some demented people that resisit it, but it is better then having that same resident impacted. We don't require a doctor's order to digitally remove BM, but we do chart what we did and what was removed (color, consistancy, resident tolerance). I don't know about a post surgical telemetry patient as far as orders go.

I have 4 tattoos, one on each arm and one on each leg and in my uniform that cannot be seen. I would just keep them covered, but you shouldn't have to point yours out if they can be covered.

I know a nurse that was in trouble for smiling too much. And myself when I was a CNA I was wrote up for being insubordinate, I asked the nurses the rationale for doing sudden things (like BP's)...I was in nursing school and trying to learn....they didn't see it that way.

I take a care of a gentleman that cannot speak but can nod his head, we have a board with rows, in each row is the letters of the alphabet, this gentleman looks down if he wants a vowel (which is the first line), and the rest he looks ahead, we read the number of the row he looks at us when we reach the row he wants, then we read off the letters until we reach the one he wants and then he looks at us again. We speel out what he needs wants or is just asking this way. There is also a couple of rows with preformed sayings, such as thank you. Oh yeah and when we have spelled out the word he wants he nods to tell us that word is done.

Maybe all that dirt is what was holding the poor women together????

Oh gosh I hear that so much from new nurses, so you are not alone. Give it time, and then if you don't like it try another area of nursing, like someone else said there are SO many nursing opportunities, you'll find one that suits you well. Good Luck! :)

I have to agree, not everyone is suited for eachother, I would reassign that CNA to someone else.

Personally I would rather see you go slower and be sure it's right then rush and mess up. Also when I see another nurse is still passing meds, I go and see if there is anything I can do to help her out, myabe she is behind because she has other things going on. Just keep on doing what you are doing, it will speed up as you get more used to it. Good Luck!

OMG I hate when people ask are you a "real nurse", well I have REAL license...so yeah I'm a real nurse. You know the running joke RN=Real Nurse, LPN= Let's play nurse Some people just can't get over this RN?LPN stuff.

Wow...I was refering to news reports and the such, they are quick to report about bad nursing homes and not good ones also. I am well aware of nursing homes that can be downright terrible, I have worked in them. So please don't attack me, I most certainly don't have a "pollyanna" attitude, I was actually defending those nurse that have to work in these bad places. But honestly nursing home work isn't for everyone, same as ER work isn't for everyone etc. My original post was also refering to someone asking about small LTC chains vs big chains, and compiled together from other posts. Bottom line is the state says you have X amount of work that must be done and only X amount of staffing and funding. It makes the work hard and frankly things being "undone". And in the long run it is the residents that suffer, and this is what most news stories like to cover, not the stories of the nursing home that somehow manage to do everything by the grace of god. I never said don't vent your horror stories out but if some one ask for opinions and responses then hey I'm going to answer.

Well after I picked myself off of the floor from fainting, I would call in to work laughing my fanny off and tell them I won't be in ever again. Now I do like nursing but with all the things we want to do, I won't have time to be working. We are always discussing what we would do if we won, it's fun to discuss but a little dissapointing and depressing too. We have come up with some great ideas that will never come to light. has this resident been assessed for everything? pain (some people just won't own up to hurting), depression, doesn't like to be alone, is used to sleeping in a bed (I have seen people that at home slept in a recliner and when in bed rings all nite/day long, put in a geri chair/recliner...out like a light), UTI, cough/cold/puemonia? Not that this is always the case but....worth checking. Others maybe can be care planned to frequently turn on call light for no real needs, that way if state sees it on they see oh she/he is care planned for it...maybe that would help
