Unnecessary behavior
I appreciate this very much! She even came into the trauma bay after a resuscitation to yell "can you silence that monitor!” near the end of my shift. I had my hands full and didn't even acknowledge her. I wish I had the guts to say something in the moment, but with the first incident, it was an emergent situation, so timing wouldn't have been great. I can only try to do it the next time (because there surely will be!). Thanks again for the insight.

Unnecessary behavior
Today, I was rounding in the ER as the rapid response nurse, and a nurse who I've had issues with in the past came up to me, put her hands on my arms to push me aside, and said, "MOVE.” I am at a loss of what to do, because every time I report other staff disrespecting me, or treating me poorly, it tends to get turned around on me. I was not in her way at all. She had plenty of room to go around me. I was leaning against the wall, in an attempt to offer her help. I didn't say anything, and left the ER. I am uncomfortable with speaking to her 1:1, as I fear she will just yell at me. My past issues with her include her yelling at me, and telling me how to do my job (I have more experience), belittling me in front of patients, and declining to accommodate my disability when I had a back injury. For those issues, she was asked to switch units, as she also had several other complaints from other staff about her behavior. I want this to stop, especially now that she's laid her hands on me. But I want to do it with professionalism and stand my ground. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Student Concerns...
I know a nursing student who frequents the local ED seeking narcotic pain medications...which she always receives. I am concerned for her ability to treat patients while using narcotic medication. Can I anonymously report her? To who?

Online PALS Class
Thanks for all your responses! I signed up for the online AHA class and scheduled the skills check-off with my local EMS educator. Total cost...$225. The other non-AHA class was $275 AND I would have missed out on a great concert in LA. Now I get the best of both!! Score!!

Was I in the wrong to try to call 911?
So what happened after her "seizure"? Did she get up and skip away?

Online PALS Class
Hello All, I need a PALS class ASAP before I begin a new job. I have taken it before but need the 2 day as my previous has expired. . Do the online PALS classes provide AHA provider cards? Anybody with any experience taking an online PALS class? I have looked at pals training.com and they seem legitimate, but I'm not about to spend $300 without knowing what type of card I will receive. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Have you ever puked/fainted/etc at work?
I was in my final year of nursing school, working in palliative/oncology. I had helped a patient to the bathroom (IV pole and everything) when the tunnel vision began. I managed to squat to the floor to avoid falling as the patient called for help. My mentor picked me up and put me in a chair and wheeled me to the break room to lie down. How embarrassing! My patient later stated that she had never seen someone turn so pale. Apparently I was over-doing it with 3 jobs, full time nursing school, and commuting over 2 hours a day.

PVC and PAC in ECG rhythm
I would suggest taking a 12 lead EKG class. Is it not mandatory where you work? Recognizing all types of cardiac rhythms is definitely a qualification for any ICU nurse (where I work anyways).

Doctor and nurse
" I have seen the difference education and experience in nursing makes. Nurses look at their patients...sometimes reading even the smallest cues that things are wrong, this includes physical and emotional aspects. I have rarely seen physicians with such abilities" YES!!!!

Doctor and nurse
I wanted to be a MD, but didn't want to go away to school as my father had recently died and I felt like my mother needed me. I went to nursing school instead and got my Bachelor's degree. It was only when I was actually in nursing school that I decided to be a RN. And in the last 10 years, I am so glad I chose to be a nurse instead. I can travel. I can take month long vacations and get paid. Doctors can not. I get paid overtime. I am the eyes and ears for the doctor. And I paid off my student loans in

A paper bag with a bottle of water, and apple, a chocolate square, and trail mix. Oh, and a pin with the CNO's picture on it so we all know what he looks like.

Why Can't Spouses and Families Understand The NOC Schedule?
It's not just my family member and SO..it's the day staff who also don't quite get it. I was called at 1100 AM after working 7p-7a - and had to come in again at 7p just to ask about my schedule for the next week. I have also been called by the manager at 3PM to work over time that night.....again, after working 7p-7a. I now turn my phone to 'do not disturb' from 0800-1600. Works like a charm.

research questions
Try Your school approved research engines such as MedScape or PubMed. Google may also turn up some articles. AACN just published a really good article recently. Further, therapeutic hypothermia is extremely comon in most hospitals now. If you're doing your clinicals in one, perhaps you can score a copy of the orders. As you begin to learn about the ins and out of post-cardiac arrest hypothermia, you may then decide what really perks your interest and focus your paper on that.

Pushed Around..
