Why do so many cheerleaders enter nursing?
I just want to see less nurses on shows like "Snapped" or "Fatal Vows" My husband is starting to look at me sideways!
- Sick of nurses "referring" to our specialty

What Else Can I Do For A Living?
Hmmm. This is hard and I really do want to help. I have a MSN in something similar to yours and I work in quality management at a corporate level with hospitals nationwide. But again that's healthcare. I would suggest marketing but that field is pretty competitive already. Work with an insurance company in some capacity maybe? Check back in and let us know how things turned out. Best of luck to you!!!

Can I ask to work exclusively day shifts?
Maybe you can get support during your years of nursing school. Clinical rotations can be crazy too, so think ahead on how to best deal with childcare. Once you graduate perhaps you can look for work in a clinic setting, or someplace that is not open 24/7. Best of luck!

Regular hours?
After 12 years on the floor, I now work a 7-4 non-patient care job. I think without the patients working daily is easier. I rarely bring work home, and if I do it's because it's my choice to do so. This body is worn, tattered, and ready to be scattered-so 12 hours are no longer an option. I do have plenty of energy when I get home which is also a great thing.

Ethical dilemma, what would you do?
Take the interview and see what happens. Although you do not deal with the office manager, what is going on will eventually affect you. It would be wise to gather any documentation you can of any unlawful events and by all means save yourself!

computers
Are they implying that nurses are now like computers? That can't be right because computers don't care for money. While nurses (myself in particular) seem to thrive on it. Time to go shopping on the internet while at work...

How do people feel about male nurses?
We love them. Come and be welcomed. We need good nurses period!

People who don't look before flushing (#2)
I have started using PooPouri (which is awesome btw) so I can't get a clear view of the offender. But still I try...

Buying a new car for a new nurse ??
I was just thinking new tires/snow tires or chains (I live in the South so s&*t if I know) and save that money.

Non clinical nursing careers
Be on the lookout for jobs in quality, or chart auditing. Those will not require any patient contact. Infection control may not as well. Best of luck!

Would you hire an MUSC grad over anyone else?
Why would someone in MUSC make a better nurse? Shouldn't they be working with Adele? I don't know what's going on here. Gonna daydream about chocolate...

Master's degree
I do. Got it in Health Care Systems Management from Loyola New Orleans. They actually offer the program online as well as being a brick and mortar facility. I work in a corporate setting and this is the best job I ever had. The position I hold is the only one in the company and I am the only person to ever have it. I know I am extremely fortunate (until they cut me loose of course) to no longer sob softly while driving to work. To me it was worth it as I got a big salary increase, but most importantly I got peace of mind.

I was happy once. Then I became a nurse
I agree with EAP and also the FMLA comments. Use the FMLA time to look for another job. Maybe you need another area of healthcare to work in since this is not the job for you. Perhaps clinic work? I have been a nurse for almost 20 years and my resume looks like an indeed.com page. But moving around helped me maintain sanity. In those days I suppose it was easier to change jobs but please look for another position. You deserve peace of mind.

Where did you start working right after getting your RN license?
Hematology/Oncology unit. There was also overflow thrown in just for the extra exercise. No better way for a new nurse to learn then chemo, codes and crazy patients all on the same shift!

Is clinic nursing a dirty job?
One more time for the folks in the back-they couldn't hear you for the IV pumps beeping...
