  1. I was just wondering how other ERs triage. We are having a little conflict at work.....so how does everyones triage process work? What determines which patient is seen first? I will fill in the details later....just want to see how it works in other places. Thanks!
  2. Wow! This makes me sick....what a sad shape our world is in.
  3. I went from the ER to OPS/PACU . It was a breeze. no stress, weekends or holidays. I absolutely hated it, and was bored out of my mind. I am now back in the stressful, fast paced crazy environment I love..ER, and I will never leave again!
  4. My daughter was just saying something along these lines today, and like you feeling guilty! I told her never stay in a job or profession that makes you miserable.....if you have an opportunity do something different. As for me I cannot see myself doing anything other than Emergency Nursing.....I love it!
  5. At my hospital it can only be used for re-certification, and first timers still have to do the class. I did like a lot of you..I was really looking for drugs that I wanted to give, and had no option! It has a few gliches, but I did enjoy it, and I learn much better this way! We also do BLS, and PALS like this too.
  6. I laughed out loud when I read your post!!! I could just picture the whole thing! I was just in the ER (not mine) this weekend with a family member, and I warned my hubby....do not mention that I am a NURSE!!!! They did a really good job taking care of my family member and I tried to keep my mouth shut except for please, and thank you!
  7. I will be 56 in a few days. My hubby and I are thinking somewhere between 59 1/2 - 62. We have tried to invest & plan....and will have no debt. I don't know if I will be ready to stop working or not.....and I worry we won't have enough money. Hubby on the other hand says we will be fine!
  8. "i witnessed a nursing supervisor physically abuse a patient. while i have seen abuse before, this rose to a level at which i think the supervisor should face charges in court for assault. it was that bad. that supervisor's judgment is atrocious". this to me says it all...i don't care if i had been an employee for 16 years, or 6 weeks....i would report to any and all that i could report to, and i would have called the police to boot!. i hope you do what you need to so that this piece of crap can never hurt anyone else again. i would also take one of the other job offers asap.
  9. I guess that different with each person....for me it was the right thing to do. I learned so much, and would do it the same way again. I did not stay in MS, but what I learned has served me well.

Asics, Nike, Crocs. I have a lot of shoes, and switch every day usually.
  11. I agree if you are miserable its time to move on. It is not fair to you or your patients. I wish you much luck, and hope you find a position that makes you happy. Kinda like the saying....If you love your job...you'll never work a day in your life!
  12. No lay offs, but a lot of low census. We have had one wing closed for a couple of weeks. In staff meetings we are urged to come up with money saving ideas, and told we are seriously in the red. On the other hand we have a huge addition currently under way...:uhoh21:
  13. With so many people out of work....that will work....why tolerate lazy from anyone? This is a pet peeve of mine, and I have no tolerance for lazy people regardless of their title.
  14. I am 55 recently switched to another area from ER....I am miserable. I thought the schedule in the new area would be worth the change....I am bored to death and will be going back asap! I don't see it as an age issue, but a work ethic issue. I see so many that are just plain lazy of all ages. So if you don't mind hard, fast paced work go for it! I work 12s...3 one week, four the next...no problem. The LPNs in my ER work fast track. They are required to have ACLS, and PALS. BTW...an LPN from the ER was just honored as nurse of the year at my hospital.
  15. Well... go you! Congrats!
  16. Wimps Stupid parents Overdoses Vomit and sputum....(makes me weak to even type it!) People with those long dirty thick nails....hands or feet.
  17. I do full time 40+. I am working Outpt Surgery, PACU, and ER. I take call one night a week, and every 7th weekend. I work quite a few Fridays that are 16 hour shifts.....so far no problems. I made a change ~ 5 months ago from ER to OPS/PACU....just waiting for my chance to return to the ER full time! Sounds like you know what you need so I say...Go for it!
  18. I actually saw this happen the other day....first for me too! We were in PACU, and had a pt crashing. A nurse had already spiked the blood, and was reaching up to adjust the roller clamp when came out....it went everywhere! There was so much going on at the time that we just threw down some towels and carrried on.
  19. Wheeeew! I thought it was just me! I just took a job for better hours, no weekends/holidays.....its at the same facility different dept. I am so home sick for my ER that I could cry! I have to stay in my current position for six months before I can go back......I have only been gone for ~ four weeks, and I am miserable, and bored to death. The only saving grace is that the people are really nice..I have learned my lesson! I will never do anything but ER nursing again!
  20. We are a 13 bed ER seeing around 70-80 give or take a few....nothing else around for ~ 95-100 miles. It can be a little crazy at times. Like you our FT leaves at midnight, and we have no pharmacy at night. To answer your question..... yes those numbers sound pretty wild. I was wondering how ya'll are staffed after midnight? We go to one provider, and three nurses, one- two techs if we are lucky.
  21. I get you so completely. I know how it feels to desperately try to save the mangled child hit by a car .....and to hear the heart wrenching screams that do not even sound human coming from the mother....just to have the next pt complain in that high pitched voice because they had to wait for some trival nonsense. So you vent, and maybe we can have a good laugh, share stories, then go back, and do it all over again!
  22. I don't see how the examples you gave would fit into the whiney category.....not at all what I feel like the posted is speaking of. For someone who presents as so compassionate I am not feeling it...the poster is venting!
  23. When an adult starts whining ....my eyes roll, my head starts shaking, I suddenly go deaf, and my feet automatically go in different direction! Its like a reflex....I have no control! Please just ask in a normal voice & tone for what you need.....you'll get it a lot faster!
  24. As long as they A&O its their choice. I ask them to sign ama form, if they won't I chart refusal...and move on to help those that want it.
  25. Frequent flyer that had no business being there to start with????
