  1. This is why I am now unemployed.I got beat up on a nightly basis until I could take no more.My facility did nothing to protect my safety of other residents.I call the police and was written up for it...even after the police had to help the emt's escort the patient out if the building after choking me and another resident.....I amnow re evaluating my workplace choices and collecting unemployment until I make the next move..sadly it will not be in my beloved LTC I just can't take the abuse they let go on .my body is broken down and so is my spirit.
  2. NSO.. had it for 20 years..thankfully have never had to use it..
  3. i'll make it simple..yes..always..it's not smart not to..
  4. leave it alone..period...she will be long gone before too long.worry about yourself .focus on your internship as it goes by way too quickly!!
  5. Yiikes!!!.....follow your scope of practice at all times....holy cow!!! :smackingf
  6. I quit November 19th 2007..I still want to smoke at times i just dont.I have become a little OCD about the quit date and refuse to make a new date.so I cannot start smoking again.so far so good.. I used a million and one excuses not to quit until I decided I was tired of being addicted to cigs. After I admitted that I was addicted ,the quitting thing just naturally followed..hum..go figure...I can't say honestly that I feel better, but I do know my wallet does.
  7. I can't remember wanting to be anything but at nurse..now a decade and a half later I want to kick myself in the behind..problem is im just too darned tired to do it....i digress......
  8. at our facility we pass meds and treatments on the computer .we have to scan a barcode for every med we pass and for every treatment we do.everything is electronically signed.no paper mars or tars.
  9. I got a home made knitted nurse doll from my very first pt I took care of fresh out of nursing school..I have gotten many gifts since then ,but that was the one i remember the most.
  10. if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...chances are..it's a duck.. if the shoe fits, slap it on ur piggies and walk out da door..
  11. hi all, im from pennsylvania. I was looking for the scope of practice for an lpn od the BON site and couldnt find much.. so I thought I'd ask an lpn..can you use central lines?
  12. did you say she signed her name or your name???if she signed YOURS...whoa !! not good ...not legal...I would be livid if someone signed for me.....she needs written up..before you get written up .YIIKES!!
  13. calling the don to inform her that the entire shift has called off..only to be told to mandate your entire shift, only problem is that that shift was already mandated from the previous one!!(don't work there anymore..btw)
  14. a biggie with me is you can't do such and such a treatment on that wound...that will cost x amt of money...that came from the administrator.grr!! another is i'm a nurse...i know what my brother needs....yeah right.....might be why ya keep bringing him in high sodium foods and cans of soda tuesday on your monthly visit and..mercy he's in chf on friday after eating it all..even though you have been "educated" every visit why brother cannot have them..gooo sister nurse :angryfire ooh and ..the nurse that has concert tickets for friday ...and shocker...my big butt is mandated on saturday when she is toooo ill to report for her shift... :angryfire
  15. oh stiget99......wouldnt that be interesting.......i think pigs will sprout wings and fly first i'm afraid....
  16. I agree, with ya .. all I'm saying is that if we choose to work in the conditions as bad as they are.. once we take that assignment we must provide for the residents..is the staffing going to change in the near future..prob.not..not until we make it do so ...the bottom line has to be about the residents in my book.. so until they give me more cna's i will do my job and their's to see my residents do not go without.... how did we go from oral care to staffing anyway...hum....new thread needed perhaps?
  17. not sure where you are ..but in PA the almighty PPD rears its ugly head..and the min is 2.7 nursing care hrs per resident in a 24 hr period...cna, lpn, rn's are all added into the mix...even if you are at 2.7 it is not enouogh hands on...but we muddle on.....
  18. sounds like you are preachin' to the choir here ..everyone is short staffed..it is the responsibility to work as a team...i do everything from the router to the tooter..and oral care is a biggie with me...have gotten residents from acute care and other ltc with dangerous oral cavities...good ol'fashioned nursing care fixed most of em'..some needed meds to correct..
  19. restraints!!! yiikes!!....my facility is restraint free.oops.different thread..i have found that rewarding my cna's with food and trinkets work wonders.......it is amazing how creative they will get when good ol' fashion cookin is involved..and best of all the residents benefit ..i have a few that even make the gals and guys split the rewards!!! go figure...a conspiracy...lol :rotfl:
  20. alas ...at times we are expected to be registered babysitters............i dont have time!!!my residents need me..and the cna's that is why we are there!!! :angryfire
  21. i keep it simple....treat em all like they are your very own granny or pap and you'll never go wrong!!!give em respect and TLC!!
  22. ooohh!!! my pet peeve!!!! my cna's know the sure fire way to get me on my soapbox is to look at my folks' mouth and see any creepy , icky, thingy's..i then have an unscheduled in service ..gotta do it every now and again with a new class of trainee's too!!.
  23. cover thy own butt...if she is making mistakes then it affects you, the residents..in short all...her impairment issue of past is on her..her lack of job performance in present is now your problem..and more to the point should be yourDON's problem....(i believe in sharing the wealth... )
