  1. I wish I would have had that problem when I was in school. Except very rarely, we had to go the day before to choose our patients. Then there was a mountain of paperwork to complete before morning, which meant I always arrived at clinical after very little (or no) sleep. This left little time to actually focus on the patient's diagnosis and just study it.
  2. no worries....you did not offend me at all. i only wish i had gone to nursing school before i had so many responsibilities. i envy your situation really. in my situation, it was all i could do to keep up with the assignments and things that absolutely had to be done so their were many times when i would end up cramming the day or two before a test. i never had enough time to actually read all the material. just make sure you study enough that you actually retain the information. if you are able to do that in 2 or 3 hours a week, that is awesome. it's good that you live at home though so if you end up needing to work fewer hours then maybe you can.
  3. i don't know exactly what advice to offer. he is only 15 after all. if he thinks he may want to be a nurse, however, starting as a cna would give him an opportunity to see what nurses do. rn's are ultimately responsible for everything a cna does in addition to the things that only they, as rn's are allowed to do. he may also be able to find volunteer opportunities in your local hospitals. good luck with whatever you two decide to do.
  4. i have already graduated and i thought the first semester was ok but it only got harder from there. most of the difficulty i had was just that it was so extremely time consuming. i spent many nights before a clinical day getting anywhere from a few hours of sleep to none at all. our situations are very different though. i worked a full time job and had a family as well. after graduating i just wished i would have had more time to really learn and understand all of the material. there were alot of tests that i did well on just because i tend to be a good test taker. if you are able to continue to have a social life, good for you. just make sure you study enough that you understand the concepts behind what you are reading. i'm sure you will do fine. just be ready for it to get harder. every semester that passed, we lost students and also gained new ones who were taking the class for a second time. good luck to you!!
  5. i do that to my husband to.....i can't tell if he thinks it's funny or just tolerates me doing it.
  6. i also applyed for the nicu at woman's and would be more than happy to be your classmate:d. i have tried calling but always get voice mail. hermann is my first choice but i would be more than happy to work at woman's. i just want to be in nicu.
  7. congratulations on your new job!! i guess now instead of worrying about whether my packet was received, i can start worrying about the fact that they haven't called me yet.:chuckle is your new job at woman's in the nicu? i think i remember seeing another post about you applying there.
  8. after the application deadline passed, they later opened it again until sept 25. i am assuming they did not have enough applicants or at least not enough of the kind of applicants they were looking for. the number accepted will vary according to their need at the time. last january they had interns at the medical center location; i don't know how many but they hired at least 8 from my school that i am aware of. i heard that all interviews were cancelled though for the suburban locations. but that was last year and i have no idea what is going on for this year. i wish i did.
  9. i have called a few times in the last couple of weeks but always have to leave a message. i then called human resources and was told that if i leave a message that they should return my call within the week. it's just frustrating. i want to work at hermann so bad and i just want to hear something....anything
  10. Congratulations to you!!!! Now that it's over, don't you feel like you have NO idea how you ever made it through?
  11. We practiced on mannequins. I guess it was not good to not go out and torture real people until we had some clue what we were doing but the mannequins are way different than the real thing.
  12. Embarrassing maybe but she has probably repeated that story and gotten many laughs..:chuckle
  13. I am a firm believer that you can see someone who has passed on. When I was a teenager I saw my great grandmother who had been dead for several years. It scared me to death but I know what I saw.
  14. I hate the sound of suctioning but I can do it. But I know I could never work with an eye surgeon who does surgeries while the patient is awake....gives me chills just thinking about it.
  15. Congrats on passing!!!! I took the Kaplan course and am using the Kaplan book to study. I take my test in 3 weeks. Good luck with your studying and your NCLEX.
  16. we had the choice of either taking the flu shot (and the h1n1 when it is available) or wearing a surgical mask during our entire shift until flu season is over. anyone coming into er with flulike symptoms is placed in a mask at triage until flu test comes back negative and visitors are asked to wear mask if they are sick.
  17. i have had the misfortune of working with someone just like this, except she had already passed nclex and so was working under her own license. she was an er nurse and i came into contact with her as i would come to the er to pick up my ct patients. she was very vocal about everything she knew and even claimed to not have taken the plastic wrap off some of her nursing books in school. i was a nursing student and it was even obvious to me how very very scary she was.
  18. did you graduate in may then? have you worked anywhere as a nurse since then? i ask because i have already graduated as well and am still working at the job i have had for years (not a nurse tech or lvn though).
  19. :hpygrp: omg....that was too funny. at least he had a good sense of humor. and i was picturing you half sliding through the door (i'm a huge seinfeld fan!!)
  20. so would i. it's very frustrating. when they extended the application period, i wondered if it was because they received too few applications. maybe they now have so many it is taking a while to sort through them. really though, i guess we can only wait (impatiently:d) and see what happens. we are truly at their mercy.
  21. just wondering if anyone who applied for the january internships had heard anything yet. or even gotten confirmation that their application was received. i thought i was a patient person but this is testing me. it would just ease my mind just knowing that my application is where it is supposed to be.:anbd:
  22. i have no idea why but the time on my post is 5 hours ahead of the real time. my email is doing the same thing. i'll have to check that out.
  23. i have the same problem. it's good to hear i am not the only one. i desperately want this internship. i hope we will hear something soon. they could save themselves some of the phone calls if they would just confirm receipt of the applications. i wonder if they are all sitting in their offices with their phones going directly to voice mail?
