Not prepared for clinical!
I wish I would have had that problem when I was in school. Except very rarely, we had to go the day before to choose our patients. Then there was a mountain of paperwork to complete before morning, which meant I always arrived at clinical after very little (or no) sleep. This left little time to actually focus on the patient's diagnosis and just study it.

Does anyone else find nursing school... easy?
no worries....you did not offend me at all. i only wish i had gone to nursing school before i had so many responsibilities. i envy your situation really. in my situation, it was all i could do to keep up with the assignments and things that absolutely had to be done so their were many times when i would end up cramming the day or two before a test. i never had enough time to actually read all the material. just make sure you study enough that you actually retain the information. if you are able to do that in 2 or 3 hours a week, that is awesome. it's good that you live at home though so if you end up needing to work fewer hours then maybe you can.

advice for highschool student
i don't know exactly what advice to offer. he is only 15 after all. if he thinks he may want to be a nurse, however, starting as a cna would give him an opportunity to see what nurses do. rn's are ultimately responsible for everything a cna does in addition to the things that only they, as rn's are allowed to do. he may also be able to find volunteer opportunities in your local hospitals. good luck with whatever you two decide to do.

Does anyone else find nursing school... easy?
i have already graduated and i thought the first semester was ok but it only got harder from there. most of the difficulty i had was just that it was so extremely time consuming. i spent many nights before a clinical day getting anywhere from a few hours of sleep to none at all. our situations are very different though. i worked a full time job and had a family as well. after graduating i just wished i would have had more time to really learn and understand all of the material. there were alot of tests that i did well on just because i tend to be a good test taker. if you are able to continue to have a social life, good for you. just make sure you study enough that you understand the concepts behind what you are reading. i'm sure you will do fine. just be ready for it to get harder. every semester that passed, we lost students and also gained new ones who were taking the class for a second time. good luck to you!!

Memorial Hermann GN Internship
after the application deadline passed, they later opened it again until sept 25. i am assuming they did not have enough applicants or at least not enough of the kind of applicants they were looking for. the number accepted will vary according to their need at the time. last january they had interns at the medical center location; i don't know how many but they hired at least 8 from my school that i am aware of. i heard that all interviews were cancelled though for the suburban locations. but that was last year and i have no idea what is going on for this year. i wish i did.

Do you practice your skills on dummies/mannequins
We practiced on mannequins. I guess it was not good to not go out and torture real people until we had some clue what we were doing but the mannequins are way different than the real thing.

they see dead people
I am a firm believer that you can see someone who has passed on. When I was a teenager I saw my great grandmother who had been dead for several years. It scared me to death but I know what I saw.

What would make you say "I could never do that"
I hate the sound of suctioning but I can do it. But I know I could never work with an eye surgeon who does surgeries while the patient is awake....gives me chills just thinking about it.
