  1. Wright would be MUCH less expensive but you'll be waiting a while to get in. NWIHT is gross. I went there for my CNA and the school, lab, instructors, and admin were all terrible in my opinion. The school and lab are so outdated that you'll only be able to work in the nursing home home that you'll do your clinical at. The instructors are unprofessional. The instructor I had for CNA couldn't say 'member' without giggling and would often refer to it as a man's "weapon". Continual sexual jokes were of that nature were made. He would also refer to feces, stool, bowel movements as sh*t and other distasteful words. Yes, I understand that I sound like a prude, but I didn't sign up to pay over $1,200 to be taught by a man with the maturity level of a 7th grader. And complaining to admin will do you no good. Several people in my class complained and we were blown off. Have you looked into Ambria? I would suggest checking that place out if you haven't.
  2. Thanks for asking that! I had been meaning to question that same thing-about transferring in credits and such. From what I was told when I spoke with and admissions rep was that you of course can transfer in certain credits, however, there is a flow to the program so it wouldn't take time off of the program, it would just lighten your load depending on the semester/section. Mind you, this was almost 2 years ago, which is why I'm VERY curious as to if things had changed (which would rock my socks off!) Who knows this answer for sure? Spill it! :)
  3. What does it mean for the student if you attend an LPN program at a school, such as Ambria, that is not NLNAC accredited? Can you still get into an LPN-RN bridge program at another school?
  4. Did they say how long the program was or how much it costs VS the LPN program? Did they say what the schedule would be like or where clinicals would be?
  5. Hey Oreana! Did you ever look into Americare? I'm really thinking about going to an infosession at the school this week to see what it's all about. It is sort of far from me, I live on the North side of Chicago and apparently their new campus will be in Hoffman Estates, but it looks like they are the only LPN school that accepts federal financial aid...and I need that. How is your school search going?
  6. Hi All! I know these questions have been asked repeatedly but a lot of the responses were old and I know info changes all the time at these schools. I was just wondering what you think of Americare? Current students, what is the schedule like for the daytime LPN program? How are they with transfer credits (I know a lot of schools say they take transfer credits but when it comes time, they won't accept them for one reason or another)? I spoke with a rep on the phone the other day-kinda rude, but that's okay, I'm assuming she isn't an instructor!- and I was told the tuition is between $22-24 thousand for the program. Is this accurate? Did the pell grants and federal student loans cover the tuition? How long did it take to get the WIA grant and what is the max you can receive? Where are clinicals done at? Do you feel like you are getting a quality education? Oh, and how long does it take to complete the program? I wish there were other LPN schools that are able to offer federal financial aid! Hoffman Estates is really far from me (I live on the North side of Chicago) but I haven't found any Any info that can be given would be appreciated so much! Thank you!!!
  7. Congrats! That is so awesome!!! Is it in the city or burbs?
  8. Where did you take the CNA class? Can you PM me with how much you would want for the book and when I could get it? It's the 7th edition, right? Thanks!!! :)
  9. Hi! Just wondering if anybody knew where to get a cheap copy of Mosby's Textbook for Nursing Assistants 7th Edition? I'm starting class next week and I need it. Anybody have a copy they aren't using anymore that would like to sell it???:)
  10. Hi! Just wondering if anybody knew where to get a cheap copy of Mosby's Textbook for Nursing Assistants 7th Edition? I'm starting class next week and I need it. Anybody have a copy they aren't using anymore that would like to sell it???:)
  11. I'm pretty sure that a few of the city colleges have LPN to RN bridge program. Truman, Kennedy King and Wright all have bridge, I believe. Some others may as well.
  12. Hi, has anybody gone to NWIHT and successfully been able to transfer credits in? I've taken A&P 1, 2, 3 as well as Gross Anatomy lab 1 and 2. I was thinking about going to Chamberlain and they were going to accept them as transfer credits but I didn't know if NWIHT is fussy about accepting transfers. I know I am going to go to school here, but it is SO expensive and any little bit would help, you know? Thanks in advance for any info! (Also, anyone going to be attending school at NWIHT soon?)
  13. Thanks for the info!
  14. Were you already a CNA when you applied there? I've heard they have a CNA training program there where you learn while on the job and start getting paid after 2 weeks of training. Anyone know anything about this? Can I apply there if I'm not currently a CNA?
  15. Does anyone know of any decent places to work as an NA? I am going to be starting the CNA program soon and am currently not working and need to get a job as soon as I'm able to in nursing. I live on the north side in Ravenswood. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  16. Here is a link to help you get your schooling paid for when you graduate. It's a really good thing, but know that you are going to have to work in some pretty sketchy areas! http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/nelrp/questions.htm
  17. I have heard about Northwestern Institute of Health and Tech, Americare, and PCCTI. I just checked out J'Renee but I have no idea where that is! I've heard not so good things about PCCTI and Americare. I've heard some pretty good things about NWIHT and I've actually been there to speak to an admissions advisor. That was about a couple months ago and it sounded pretty good (program, pass rates, etc.) but my main concern was the money (seems like all these private LPN schools cost the same). But you know, after giving it some thought, I'm either going to go there and spend 10-15k more than if I go to a community college. And really, the soonest I would be able to possibly get into an LPN program at a community college is fall of 2010...I could be almost finished at NWIHT if I start their next batch which is the end of February. So, I am going there next week to get my ducks in a row so I can start. I'm really excited! Have you done any more research? Any plans? Good luck with whatever you do!!!
  18. Hi! Is there a difference in salaries for LPN when it comes to where you are working? Will an LPN at a hospital make more than an LPN at a nursing home?
  19. Hi NursEMMIE! Did you do the LPN program at KKC as well, or just the LPN-RN bridge? I'm tossing around the idea of taking the LPN program there, do you know if they have a waiting list? Also, is it a safe place to go to school? I know the neighbor hood is pretty rough, but how is the school? It's not far off the expressway, right?
  20. Hi, Thanks for the resonse. I'm not sure how to PM I'm failry new to the site. Do you know if I have already started the process for one site, can I switch to another site for the WIA grant? Also, do you know of any other grants/scholarships available for Northwestern Institute? I'd really like to go there, but it is SOOO expensive! But it's literally 3 blocks from my apt :) If this school doesn't work out I'm going to try KKC in englewood, but I'm a little iffy about the neighborhood. I've been told by several people not to go there. But I need my education and I need it now. Thank you!!!!
  21. Hi! I was just wondering how you get a scholarship through IDPA? I went to the WIA orientation as well as the intake appointment and the intake counselor was NOT helpful at all. I went to the Northside workforce center on Sheridan. I guess I didn't have everything that I needed to complete my file I was basically shown to the door. I don't know if I qualify. I saw on the website for workforce that you have to make under $11,000/year to qualify. Is this true? Any help would me nice :-)
  22. Hi All! I am going to an info session at KKC this Thursday for the LPN program. Can anybody give me some info on the current LPN program at KKC? Anyone currently enrolled? Also, how is the campus? If I do get in would it be safe for me to take the green line there? I have a lot of people telling me that it is *NOT* a safe area and that I should dive. Is there a parking lot? Anyone going to the info session on Thursday and want to meet up? :-)
  23. Hi! Thanks for the info! I just spoke with Amy at NWIHT yesterday and she was really helpful! My only concern was the cost and the fact that you can only get loans through Sallie Mae. I believe the program at KKC is less expensive and you can get gov't loans. Do you know if KKC requires you to be a CNA to get in? I know NW does and I am thinking about starting that on Sept. 21. How long does it take to get the WIA grant? And do they have any other times that you can go for oriendations besides MTWTh from 9:15-10:15? I lost my job a couple months ago and then I would not have qualified for it because I made more than 11K/year, but it has been impossible to find work lately and I'm starting a temp job Monday but it only lasts until the beginning of Dec. Do they base your income on the prior tax year or your current situations? (sorry for so many questions, I'm just feeling overwhelmed with all of this!) Thanks again for the info and any help!!!
  24. Hi there! I'm new to the site and have been reading a lot of these posts for hours for the past few days! I am going to speak with an admissions advisor at Northwestern Institute of Health and Technology tomorrow about the LPN program. I was also looking into Kennedy King's LPN program. I spoke with somebody about it in their nursing dept over the phone just a few minutes ago and asked about the pre-reqs and she didn't say anything about Chemistry or Microbiology. Are those only prereqs for the LPN-RN program? I have A&P 1 and 2 along with Gross Anatomy Lab 1&2 and also Kiniseology(sp?) as well as several other classes, but have not taken Chemistry. I wanted to apply for the January 2010 start date at KKC but if you need Chem I don't think I would be able to. Also, I'm no longer a CNA as my licensure lapsed back in 2001ish. I would much rather go to KKC simply because of the cost. I'm a single gal and I really don't qualify for any assistance (make to much money to get help, but barely enough to survive! Ha!) Anybody applying in Sept. for KKC's January start date? Anyone going to NIHT? Does anybody have any pearls of wisdom they could share with me, or is there anybody out there in the same place that I am right now? PS-Nice to meet you all!!!
