  1. Totally agreed tell the dietitian to shut it lol :)
  2. Appreciation by family and patients is always appreciated by nurses. We become a part of your lives in a very deep and profound way. I've had someone in public recognize and thank me for taking care of her from over a year before. It really meant a lot to me. May God bless you and your family and may I offer my condolences for your loss.
  3. Sweet good job! Thanks :) I'm getting put on the schedule for days next month yay! finally lol
  4. So is this for your care plan? or nursing diagnosis?
  5. A private hospital in California. I had a friend who applied there but did not want to work nights, I asked her to shoot my resume over there. My soon to be boss then called me around Dec 25th (my cert date was like Dec 12th) and she loved my resume and asked me to come in for an interview! I was nervous but I interview VERY well. She offered the job on the spot and I accepted My new job (I just got) was a lot harder to get into because I am now part of the county. but I used to make 10.77 then 11.89 after my raise.. and now I make 13.42 starting.
  6. My instructor does this kind of stuff too... She has kind of a sick sense of humor but its all good. Don't get upset.. just let it roll off your shoulders and focus on your studies...
  7. Wow I didnt know that lol. but then again I went straight into acute care after my CNA.. :\
  8. Don't need the number, they will get it later. Just put when you acquired it and the exp month/year. (similar to BLS)
  9. I did some major and minor editing. You can always tweak your resume and change things around. I didn't make my changed clear so just compare to your current one =) If you have questions let me know! :)
  10. I totally agree, however, a bad employment history and a sloppy resume will get no responses from potential employers That was kind of my point here. hehe
  11. Maybe there is something on your resume / work history that employers aren't responding to. Have you tried taking your resume to a career services center or something? When was the last time you updated your resume? Is it 1 or more pages? how is your information distributed? Do you appear at the job site professionally dressed? Gaps in your work history? explained why? Are you looking for work in your area only? or different cities? Is your social network account open for all to see? Everything is relevant when looking for a job..
  12. We paired up with a classmate. Weren't allowed to coach the other and the instructors watch closely. The exam instructor gave us a scenario and told us to do a skill. Yes you are allowed 2 retakes before they make you take the class over again. (here in California anyway)
  13. As a CNA there is no need for one. You might need one for school to learn manual blood pressure. You can buy them pretty cheap (20 bucks). You don't need an expensive one :)
  14. You will NEED CPR(BLS) for clinical as a student NA. Most schools offer a CPR (BLS) class or will tell you how to get one in the area. And honestly I have no idea what CPI is. Hope this helps! good luck!
  15. Same thing happened to me when I tried to work for a prison via an agency. They KNEW my school schedule and still scheduled my orientation for mon-friday 8 hour days >. And they didn't tell me the orientation schedule either.. just told me to show up monday and I found out there it was all week long! U did the right thing, just try finding another job. Good luck!
  16. Don't most vital machines calculate heart rate? I guess if you are having trouble doing pulse for 15 sec and multiplying x4, try for 30 seconds and multiply by 2? I use my phone calculator for any misc calculations I might need to do for school.
  17. Just tough it out. My program is 22 months and I'm almost done. It's gone by so fast >. You wont regret staying in school =) Just know your priorities! Its really hard to stay focused and motivated. I think everyone loses motivation at some point in school. Just remember why you're doing this.
  18. Arteri = pertaining to arteries (ie arteriosclerosis) Brady = Slow (ie Bradycardia means slow heart rate) Cyano = Bluish in color (ie cyanosis is the appearance of blue coloration of the skin) Derma = skin Erythro = red (ie Erythrocyte = red blood cell) Congrats =)
  19. I said 14! *throws cup on floor* Try again!
  20. I only got paid noc differential. Only RN's got weekend differential. kinda ****** me off but what can you do... they
  21. Everything is easy.. Just don't shoot yourself in the foot with worry! Skills are something everyone worries about and is where most people fail.. Something simple like not putting on gloves for shaving a patient will fail you. The instructors will usually ask "did you forget anything?" to let you reconsider what you will do differently. Also they don't like when you talk out all of your steps out loud.. I seen some people do this. Talk directly to your patient and be professional. Hope this helps!
  22. This question is often asked in interviews to determine your judgment and prioritizing skills. I'd always pick the one with the higher acuity (vent, trach, bedrest, high risk fall, etc) over a patient who is alert and ambulatory and wants pain meds. Hope this helps.
  23. A sitter is basically someone who sits in the room with a patient who assists w/ ADL's, keeps them safe and keeps them company. I think you can be hired to do this by a family or agency. Whenever I was a sitter at the hospital I worked, It was usually for patients who are confused and pulling IVs, NGTs, Vent tubes, etc. or people on suicide precautions.
  24. As much as I want to agree with how mad you are, if he was lucid enough to make his own decisions why does that bother YOU what he does with HIS property?? Nurses and their patients in long term care have a lot of time to bond and form relationships.. Maybe if you spent more time with your grandfather, he would have given it to you.. You all can hate me if you want for that comment but anyone who has worked/learned in a LTC knows what I'm talking about.. patients who never get seen by their loved ones and are depressed and lonely.. It happens all too much. Apart from that, It is HIGHLY unethical of the nurse to accept the gift. In most facilities, accepting "gifts" is against policy if over a certain dollar amount. If you are insistent on getting the ring back or looking for vengeance then call the facility's nursing manager.
