  1. I am a pre-nursing major and working at a LTC facility. I had been pretty sure for most of my life that I had wanted to do nursing. But last week I had one of those moments with a resident that I KNEW I wanted to become a nurse. I have worked at this place for a few months now and I have a resident on the floor that I am a primary tech on that I have never heard speak a word. She has a chart with letters and words on it and she will spell things out for you. She had been sick all night and I had just finished cleaning her up and I brushed her teeth, just out of common decency. She motioned me over to her, hugged me, said "Thank you, love you." and it just filled my heart with so much joy...it was so much I couldn't describe it. That was the one defining moment that I knew that nursing was the career path for me. So, what was the moment for you? I just like hearing the stories and it would be nice to hear a few!
  2. I know, right! Well I would appreciate any differential for the weekend OR third shift. It just bothers me that they claimed I would get something and didn't deliver. But that is why I am in college :)
  3. Thank you SO much everyone!!! I was planning on going to the local hospital and getting a job there, since they are literally always hiring techs and I know for a fact they do shift differentials!!! Thanks again :)
  4. I have been working for about 2 months at an LTC facility as a CNA and when i was hired on as 3rd shift, I was led to believe that I would receive a shift differential on weekends plus working nights. Now they are telling me that you only get a shift differential if you work EVERY weekend!!! Are the even allowed to do this? Also, I am pre nursing, and would it look bad to leave a healthcare job after a few months to go to something better or would it just look good that I have experience in the healthcare field? Thank you :)
  5. Last semester was my first semester in college and I let it get the best of me and I failed 3 of my classes; public speaking, sociology, and algebra. I talked to my dean and I can retake all of those classes and have my F's replaced with whatever I get next time. I'm currently on academic probation until the Spring semester. So I have a horrible G.P.A. but I am going to make up for it. I am actually really dedicated, I just got wrapped up in all the freedom I had, the partying phase that thankfully is over. I graduated in the top 10% in my high school class. Like I said, I am very dedicated to my work, I just let it get out of control. I have wanted to be a nurse since I took a nursing class my sophomore year in high school. I know its what I want to do and I know I can do it. Any suggestions to do well in nursing school? My sister graduated with her BSN and said it was very challenging and to be 100% sure it was what I wanted to do and I am sure. I just wanted some other opinions. And suggestions?
