New Grad Positions
Try applying for the third floor med/surg position and apply for every med/surg position that posts. I know in the past that they have hired new grads for positions that didn't specifically say "new grad'.

Sacramento New Grad RNs.... Are You Having A Difficult Time Landing A Job?
I graduated in May 08 and I was offered new grad positions at Fremont/Rideout in Yuba and Enloe in Chico. I believe both are still hiring new grads. PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck!

can you still work as an aide, even though you are an RN NOW AND YOU Passed the stat
I think it is fine as long as you are not stepping out of your scope of practice as an aide when you are working as an aide.

Sacramento hospitals
El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park are nice areas and they are closer to Placerville. I am not familiar with hospitals in that area. In Sacramento, I would recommend Sutter or UC Davis. Sacramento is about 50 minutes from Placerville and El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park are about 20 minutes from Placerville.

Less likely to get hired as a PREGNANT new grad?
There are 2 preggo girls in my new grad program.

New grad cant even get an interview
New grad jobs are hard to come by in Sacramento. I would suggest branching out a little bit. Try Lodi, Yuba City, or Chico. Once you have a little experience it will be easier to get a job in Sacto.

License Expiration date
According to the Board of Registered Nursing, "First California License: Your first California license is issued for two birthdays -- not two years -- and expires the last day of the month following your birth date. From that date on, it will expire every two years, if renewed timely."
-
License Expiration date
It expires 2 years from your birthday so it differs depending on when your birthday is. Mine was issued March 2008 and my birthday is in August. Mine expires Sept 2009.

crescent city nurses
I lived an hour and a half south of Crescent City for the past 3 years (Arcata). The rainy season is long. It is rainy/overcast like Oct to April. Summer months are humid but overcast and it is mostly warm and clear August and September....not enough sun and warmth for me. I don't know how affordable housing is since I never lived there and I don't know what they pay new grads. I would guess a decent 2-3 bedroom house to rent would be at least 1100/month. To get to Redding from Crescent City taking 101 south to 299 it would take about 4.5 hours. I don't know about Portland. Sorry I can't be of more help to you. I must admit that all of the rain makes for a very beautiful landscape.

Confused and frustrated!
JJG try Enloe Medical Center in Chico, CA. Apply for any med/surg position. I think they are accepting new grads.

crescent city nurses
I had clinicals at Sutter Coast and I thought it was a great hospital. They offer loan forgiveness because it is in a rural area. I wouldn't really want to live in Crescent City though.....I prefer the sun and the heat.....other than that it seemed like an ok place. I think that practicing nursing in a rural area actually gives you a better overall experience. The floors aren't separated out so much so you get to work with nurses with more broader knowledge base and you have a wider variety of patients.

clarification on att definition - a query
I'm from CA and from what I understand the ATT is good for 1 year. The IP permit is void after 6 months or after failing the NCLEX. I got my ATT in mid December and took NCLEX beginning of February. I don't think I ever would have felt fully prepared but I did my best and passed! Good luck to you!

Cumulative GPA & PRE-req GPA & which program?
Most programs calculate GPA by nursing prerequisites English, speech, human dev, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, nutrition, etc. As long as your gpa is 3.7 in all of your prerequisite courses you should get into a BSN program no problem. If any of your prerequisite classes have a lower grade you can retake them for a better grade. Some colleges don't count "in progress" courses so it will increase your overall gpa when you apply. Good luck!

New Grad interview experiences
You got lab back on your patient and Potassium was 2.5 what would you do next? You came into your patient's room and they were complaining of chest pain what would you do? You came on shift and you got report on 4 patients - 1. scheduled med is late 2. complaining of pain 3. their doctor is on the phone regarding potassium lab value of 2.5 4. complaining of chest pain what order to you go see them and why? Your patient had abdominal surgery yesterday, what care do you anticipate for the day?

Need to find a RN program without a massive waiting list.
How is your GPA? You can guarantee yourself a spot in a BSN program with a good GPA = 3.5 or better. You can retake classes to improve your grades in your nursing prerequisites. If your GPA isn't that high than you probably have to wait a little bit. Apply to as many schools possible to increase your chances. You can also check out http://www.discovernursing.com and under "How" there is a section titled "nursing programs without waiting lists." Good Luck!

Obtaining Ca results for NCLEX
Some people's licenses post on the website and some people receive their results in the mail. Be patient. After 2 weeks call them to make sure your file is complete (california issues ATT before transcripts are received and evaluated). It could be up to 4 weeks to get your results. Hope this helps!
-
Has anyone ans. 265 ?'s for NCLEX and passed
I passed w/ 265!
-
How Do I Know If I Pass?
Your name will either show up on the http://www.rn.ca.gov website or you will receive something in the mail. It takes an average of 10 days to get your results but can definitely take longer. I waited 4 weeks to find out I passed but my transcripts were late getting in.

Pinning HELP!!
My pin has my school's emblem on it and we were given the option of adding RN or BSN attached to it by a tiny chain. We had to buy our own pins and they were 40 something dollars for the cheapest ones.

Pinning HELP!!
We have planned our own pinning ceremony. We had a huge garage sale where our class donated items along with our instructors and other nursing students. We made $1500.00! It is standard procedure at our school for the seniors to put together their own ceremony. It is the evening before graduation. Ours is the 16th. Do others plan their own ceremony or does the department do it all? I don't see anything wrong with having an RN pin in your picture. Congrats!

What are higher level questions?
priority and delegation

Did I Really Take Nclex Yesterday???
Congrats RN ! I knew you would pass!

Did I Really Take Nclex Yesterday???
I am sure that you did fine! Everybody feels that way before and after testing. I graduate May 17th with my BSN too. I took my test in Feb and passed. How long do you have to wait for your results? I had to wait 4 weeks here in Ca...it was agonizing! Let me know how you did.
