  1. What type of writing utensil do you provide for your patients? Pens or pencils? Do you have any specific reasons for this decision?
  2. Can anyone offer me advice for taking the test? I am not a studier, how much studying did you do? Were you able to pass in one take?

Is there a system you use for staffing for acuity or do you just use general judgement?

Does your psych unit staff for the number of patients or for the acuity of the patients?
  5. I'm just curious if there has ever been a situation where you have had to call the police on a patient? Due to violence or destruction in the inpatient setting.
  6. Maybe that judge should spend a day with the violent mentally ill patient and attempt to get a hold of the supervisor before he can do anything about it. I agree there should be strict laws, but that is ridiculous! People get hurt!
  7. A lot of our falls are behavior. Either being careless or just silly and then also the "I need attention" falls.
  8. Does anyone know where I would find the information for my state?
  9. If it makes you feel better, we don't get Holiday pay. Only benefit to working the Holidays is sometimes they provide food. (Yep, hospital cafeteria food. Yum.)
  10. I'm almost positive my manager's badge says "unit manager" on it. All the managers do. I agree with OP. I would want recognized for my extra work!
  11. I would never comment or say anything. I should have clarified this. I was just venting my feelings, not meaning I was considering it.
  12. We have a patient who is involved in a legal issue and due to the patient's job it makes headlines. It hurts to read the stupid comments people are making on Facebook when the newspapers post the headlines. I just want to say something about how this person just made a mistake and is doing his/her best to make it better.
  13. The psych hospital I work at does not have a high turnover rate. Maybe you should do some more looking around.
  14. Does it only occur during the high?

The specific situation I am thinking of is a BPD with some psychosis. So it's partly a "look at me"

Situation: Psychotic patient who continuously removes clothing and is walking around milieu. Not aggressive but not responding to verbal redirection. No meds available (already has had them or refused them) How do you handle this?
  17. I kind of wish our facility would do that. I feel like you are able to get to know your patient's better if you are passing their meds as well.
  18. We allow bras of any kind on our unit.
  19. As far as I know, we don't have anything like this. I'm curious to know.
  20. I would like to find some articles or books or something to assist me with caring for borderline patients in the inpatient setting.
  21. There are some good aspects!! I made some of the best friends I could ever have in nursing school! They understand you and support you!! So that part was amazing!
  22. I would definitely go for the bsn. If you decide not to, maybe you could get an LPN job at an ob clinic?
  23. I was offered a L&D job right after graduation but only because it worked as a tech there while I was in school. The L&D floor where I worked did not hire LPN, and really tried to only hire BSN.
  24. What is the best way to handle a delusional patient when they are accusing you of doing something (or saying something) that is not true? Recently had one patient who was negative towards everyone but for some reason really focused on me and would accuse me of listening to her phone calls and talking about her. What is the best way to handle this situation?
  25. I like bedside reporting for nursing, but I'm not sure it's appropriate for mental health.
