  1. Ok here's my thoughts - everyone is human, we all have lives. There is no reason you cannot go to them and talk this out. Once you actually talk to them and if they won't be flexible, you'll have to make a choice at that point. Most are flexible and reasonable. Just be up front and honest. Basically you got caught up in the moment when they called you, that happens - it actually shows you were a little too excited about the position. :) Generally the only time you may have a problem is if they are adding you to some kind of training or orientation class that has a set time frame. Good luck!
  2. I was thinking more along the lines that the student, may not want the new baby to go through what she has gone through. She very well maybe reaching out not just for the fetus, but maybe herself as well. Sometimes this is what it takes, we can't judge, but I would think it still may need to be looked at. It's really up to CPS if they want to follow through or not.
  3. Have you tried using the tutors at RIO? They are usually very good and helpful 1:1. I've taken many classes at MCC and RIO, always depends on the instructor no matter which way you opt for. Good Luck!
  4. It almost sounds like she may want to be a little closer to you than you are willing to allow. She may be looking up to you, by following you. My sister and I never got along as kids - only 17months apart - boy did we flight and argue. We too had parents who favored one over the other. Now we are close - this did not happen over night, but we know we are different people as adults with our own lives, we may not always agree on things, but that's what make us individuals. I would love the chance to work or even live near her and her family. I hope you are able to overcome your differences and just enjoy being - sisters. I wish you both luck in your new careers.
  5. hmm I think that if the company recongnizes domestic partnerships, they also have to recongnize yours. You own a house together and sometimes that's all it takes. I would also by pass your manager to go to your head HR person. Sometimes you are denied just for not have all the paperwork filled out correctly - but they don't usually mention that little fact.

I'm a little more concerned about what your not saying. I hate to say it, but a couple of things raise little red flags for me in regards to your relationship with your husband. I truely hope I'm way off. I would go for it, if you have a solid plan, but don't expect your husband to be helpful, he might even turn less helpful than he already is. I one of the other posters also pointed out there is a chance you won't receive the scholarship, but I would still at least try. I wish you the best of luck!
  7. Hi there, Big Reno/Tahoe fan here. I hope to move back after NS, done is May. It's nice to find a least a few people not talking about Las Vegas! It's been many years since I live there, but I visit every year. I can't wait. :heartbeat
  8. Ok I'm going to be the "flip" side. If you're not getting the interviews you are seeking, is there an underlying cause? What is your current manager saying about you, what does your HR file look like? Do you call out? Do have a good time management and problem solving skills? you could be a really good employee and just being over looked. Have you had anyone review your resume? Can you talk to the manager over that area? If you haven't I would. Don't be pushy, just let them know this is an area you would really like to transfer into. Ask them if there is anything that may help secure a position in their department. Don't forget to follow up! Notecards work really well. Good luck!
  9. Hi, Lots of good advise. But she is protected by law and even in Texas, it is illegal. Yes they may try to say it is something else, but in most cases they do not win in court. I would contact the lawyer 1st and HR second or better yet let them contact the HR department. There are a lot of mangers who try to by pass the HR department and get bit in the end. I hope this is the case for you. Good luck and congratulations!
  10. Hi, Had to add my as well. I live with in 5 miles of the hospital and work downtown while I attend school. I would be researching the area you move to carefully, while there are good and bad, no matter which city you choose. Look up the zip code on azcentral.com for crime, it is an eye opener. Downtown does have some really nice areas as bad. Yep I've heard the gun shots, and see the aftermath, I'm also going home between 130a-6a through the heart of it. Keep in mind also that a few blocks are great and move over and viola, you run into a bad area. This is the case for any big city. I have no doubt you'll find an area you like that's not all that far from the hospital, there are many to chose from. Good Luck, welcome to Arizona!
  11. Hi there, I'm not sure, but I know for Gateway, if you are registered you can pull up your own class schedule, sping 2008. Try it, you just might be there. It makes it so much more real when you can see an actual schedule! Good Luck!:w00t:
  12. Hi, I know I don't quite count only in NS, but I work nights! And they have changed me to days, hello that's my nap time! I'm having the worst time adjusting back to days. Always been a little backwards! )
  13. Yep, Those are not classes they are clinicals! (Wed/Thurs)
  14. Thank you for both of you, this was what I was looking for!
  15. That you wanted to be in NICU? I've had a lot of "outside" advise about going into NICU once I'm done with NS. People have tried to talk me out of it that aren't even in this field. This is an area that has interested me for at least 15years. Did know this is where you wanted to be all along or did you kind of fall into it? I understand there is a negative side and a positve side and that not all of these kids make it home. My neice was in NICU a couple of years ago, and it just added to my desire. Is there a certian path to follow? Any and all comments are welcome.
  16. No you don't have to fill out the forms for each CC. You turn in your paperwork to your first choice, but you can pick any of them from the drop down. You do have to turn in seperate paperwork if you have appling for BNFP. Once you get the "stamp", you are good for any of the Maricopa CC programs. Good Luck!
  17. I didn't tell my employer, I needed the job too, and didn't want to risk not having one. I was young too. This was not in a hospital, but same rules apply. After I told them, they became inflexible, and hositle. They basically told me they would not have hired me had they known. I would schedule all my appointments around work with the few exceptions of lab work. They would know weeks in advance and would approve the time, but when the time came that was a different story. One time I was actually told should I leave they would fire me. It wasn't until after the fact unfortunately that I learned almost everything they were doing was illegal. Since then when things don't seem right I call the labor board and EEOC and have learned a lot. You might be surprised, they might have hired you either way - alot of companies do, I know I have and didn't have any regrets, it worked out well.
  18. No they cannot fire you. and if they start treating you in a negative way after you tell them, it could actully turn into a law suit. I went through this myself. The employer was not happy, but they couldn't do anything and I was a good employee. Most large companes/hospitals know the law and some will hire regarless. If you have any issues with management on your floor take it to HR.
  19. Ok here's my timeline, hope this helps clarify, applied in March 07 / MCC and BFP had interview July 07 received acceptance letter AUG 07/ Oct 07 alternate/but in March 08 cohortI don't think you can apply until March, there is only a one week window, you may want to get this clarified with an advisor. So really it took a year from the start of the process. BTW - I don't work for Banner or in the medical field - YET! Good luck!
  20. Why only CGCC? you really limit yourself when you can get in at the other CC. Online I think is a harder but doable route. IMO, I would try very hard to get any of the BIO 1 or 2 or Micro in a classroom setting rather than online. I liked both MCC and Gate. I've heard South Mountian is good too and smaller classes.
  21. If you are drowning at RIO then go to the turtoring room. They have different times and days depending on the class. They were a huge help for CHM130.
  22. I took AP 1 in class and chem online at the same time and then ap 2 with mirco. I also work full time. You know youself better than anyone, and what you can handle. They all require studing and lab time so they can be quite time consuming.
  23. They do fill up quickly, but at some of the schools you can get on a waitlist. Also you could show up on the first day of class there is usually someone who doesn't show and the instructor can add you at that point. You can also do it online with Rio, but imo, that could be even harder, I don't care for online science classes. Good luck!
  24. This was great - can it be a sticky?
  25. I just can not help myself. I would just recommend you chose your words more carefully next time. There was a time, not that long ago that pay was based on gender. However, we have come a long way from that time and frame of mind. Does it still happen - of course, but it also happens for more reasons besides "just" gender. They could think you don't need as much $$- you are young and there for have less responibilties in life, there for MISS HR decides you should make less. Yes that happens too. You think that RN is lazy and doesn't deserve the money, well you could be correct but that RN could just as easily be a MALE RN! I as a pt would not care if your GPA is 3.9 or you know east from west, what kind of treatment are you going to give me? I know many people who have direction problems and yes geography escapes them, but dang are they good at what they are doing. Also if you think you have lived a full life at 22 - boy are you in for a rude awakening! I do hope you take nursing seriously. Not all of us females are afraid of change. I know more women willing to make major changes in their lives, than I do men. Now don't think I'm attacking you, because I'm not, but if you go out in the real world and make some of these comments - well = yes nurses do eat their young, you would be the main course! Good luck on finishing school and getting your dream started.
