telemetry nursing organizations
You can also join the American College of Cardiovascular Nurses, Inc. They are strictly a cardiovascular nurses organization and have a lot to offer, I have been a member since the late 90s and got certified through them.

Cardiac Vascular Nurse Certification by ANCC
It is not strictly cardiac in focus. I took it and you should have no problem with it. There is another credentialling for Cardiac nurses that is a three tier program through the American College of Cardiovascular Nurses. Inc. www.accn.net. The level I and II exams are tough, but well worth the frustration.

distance NP education. faculty travel expenses?
I have not heard of such a thing, I am in a web based program and our evals are done via video confrence at the end of each rotation.

Should DNPs be called doctors?
I think that anyone acheiving a doctoral degree earns the right to be addressed as Dr. This is going to be an interesting fight. And as more DNP's graduate we will see it flare. Sadly nurses do not realize that if we would band together we would be a force to reckon with stronger than the AMA.

I have an interview for my top choice NP program!
Congrats on the interview. But why are you interviewing to get into a school? I have never had to do so.

Question about Cardizem Drip...
Yes this can and does happen, I have had it occur with several patients one just this week. Great catch on your part. I do have one concern, you work on a tele unit and cary a load of 6 patients, I find this very dangerous. We have a max of 4, with ample support staff. And, you are correct a well trained tele tech is worth their weight in gold.

Offered Camp Nurse position
I can offer this bit of advice. I have been a nurse now for 20 years and I applied for and accepted a camp nurse postion 2300 miles away from home directly after graducation. I loved it! I learned so much and the other nurses (3) were at various levles of experiance. one was also a new grad. The bottom line is most camps these days have more than one nurse, generally there is one that has experiance and one les experianced. There is also generally a Dr. avial if not on camp premis with in reasonable distance. I encourage you to try camp nursing when you feel you are ready. It is an experiance you will not forget.

Nursing theory-Do you use it at work?
llg, I think it has nothing to do with articulation of the information. It has to do with by in. If the nurse is one that buys into the whole nursing theory way of being then that is all well and good. There are many who do not. Many PhD prepared nurses that dispute theory base. I think it is a personell decission and it depends on how you look at the work you are doing. Is it theroy based being Watson, ect or is theroy based being God.

Arizona NS Wait Time
Jamonit, I agree with you it is to bad there are so many close minded individuals out there you being one of them. If you really read the post and understand what is being said. It does nothing more than respond to the orginial post. Nothing negative, just offering several alternatives. As for putting down other schools, I do not I speak the truth. I am glad you had a postive experiance at a school less than a good reputation. You are one of the LUCKY ones. Everyone deserves to know what is avialiable and there is no differance me telling vs you telling. This is where matruity plays a role, Some can see the posts for what they are and some can not.

next summer
It has been 6 years since I did a camp nurse job. At that time the camps were alowing a break on tutition for childern of the staff. In our camp we had 4 nurses and the head nurse was able to bring her two boys for the entire summer in liue of her payment. Now this was an all summer long boys sports camp in the berkshire mountains. Hope this helps.

Anyone doing 9-month MSN at Univ of Phoenix?
Hi, I am not in the UofP program but I am in the dual degree program at GCU. I am taking two classes at the same time and although it is tough it is well worth it. I will be graduating in May of 08 16 months after I started the program. I will have my MSNL and MBA. So it can be done it just depends on where you are in your life and what you can sacrifice to get it done. Best of Luck you will enjoy the program

and yet another failed NCLEX
Dont give up all, Retest and think positive. I realize it is frustrating, concentrate your review efforts on your problem areas and try using a forum such as this as a study aide. Choose a time every few days that you all sign on and post questions and use the years of experiance of all the other nurses on the forum to help explain the correct answer and why. It will all work out. This is but a mere bump in the road.

did you have an instructor that made it hard on you during nursing school?
Summersent First off I am sorry you are feeling this frustration. I think at one point and time we have all had an instructor that has made our school life hell. With that said, I am an adjunct instructor for a local community college and although I have students I could take or leave, I try to be as professional as I can when dealing with these students. If you encounter such an instructor please do yourself and the instructor a favor and ask to have a meeting with her and explain how you are feeling if you would feel more comfortable ask for another instructor or the Dean to be present. It has been my experiance that many times the instructors are stressed over somthing they personal or professional and do not realize that they are coming accross as 'mean'. Another consideration is this. I have students all the time that start off top notch fall into the wrong crowd or get burned out. As a result they slack off, and do not preform as they can. I will be harder on those students meaning ride them more as well as speak with them regarding what I am seeing. This allows the student a chance to vent and work on the issues. Often times it is not the instructor being mean, its the instrucotr trying to facilitate somthing and unsure how do properly do so. Best of luck to you

Nursing theory-Do you use it at work?
I can tell you that in the 20 years I have been a nurse, I have never put to use anyof it. I pretty much feel it is hogwash, and the theroy and method that is the best is what works the best for you. Follow what is in your heart and your faith.

Getting Additional Loans
Another thing I would try is applying for grants and scholarships from your local hospitals and State Nursing org. I know in AZ the state nruses association has a scholarship program for all levels of nursing and the requirements are membership and an essay. The ANA also has a shcolarship program. There are a lot of scholarship programs out there for grad programs hunt them down and you should not have a problem finding the extra money.

what do you guys think about this?
I would not hesitate to call the department head or director and ask if you are still in the running for the postion.

undecisive new grad nurse!!!!
I agree, if you go into home health directly it will not be to your benefit. Take your boards and get a good six months to year in medsurg then specialize. I know alot of people do not beleave that a good med surg background is somthing to have. But I can tell you all the basics and the foundation will be laid and skills honed if you take the time to do a med surg postion first. Then if you choose to go to ED, ICU, surgery even home health. You will have the necessary skills and be a bit more sure of yourself. It is a totaly differant world out there once you are on your own and out of school.

Arizona NS Wait Time
Hi all, I read these posts and feel your frustration. I am an adjunct instructor with the MCC system. First let me begin by telling you the waite can be two months or two years. It is done by lottery so if you happen to be drawn for fall of 07 and just signed up this summer you are lucky if not you waite. Secondly, I suggest that if your goal is to finsih school go to a BSN fast track porgram, the prereqs are the same and the waite time is far less. Why spend two or three years or semesters waiting for entrance into a two year program when you can enroll in an 18 month fast track BSN through UofP or Grand Canyon. I have suggested this to many waiting students. Infact I heard from one today, she has been waiting since last summer to get into a MCCC program applied two weeks ago to the fastrack at GCU and was accepted and started this week. So think about it, the length of time is the same, the waite is less and the degree is higher, yes the tution is higher but easily paid back when you are working as a RN in two years, vs just starting your ADN program. Think about it
