Hi! I'm a new nurse. I've been orienting on a med-surg unit for about a month or so now. I've noticed that when I go to give report, I'm not exactly sure what to report. Or maybe it would be more accurate to say that I'm not sure what order to give information. Do any of you have tips on giving a clear, concise, coherent report without taking all day? I would appreciate any advice!! Thank you so much!

I have also been on orientation for almost two weeks now. Every day I feel like I'm starting over because there are new patients with new sets of problems and drugs and all that. I have only had 1-2 patients by myself. I feel incredibly slow and feel like I should know more of what I'm doing. :imbar I'm scared to death to think that in a few months I'll have a whole team to myself! AH!!! I just keep slowing learning all these new things and definitely learning from my mistakes (which have also cause no one harm!!). I'm so thankful for an awesome preceptor!!!!

I am in my second semester of nursing school now, and I am feeling like I am not cut out. I'm kind of in a depressed state (AEB I can't stop eating. LOL) The past couple of tests have not gone well, I got in trouble for something I did that they thought I didn't do that I was supposed to do, the class average stinks and I just feel lousy:zzzzz. But, my advisers advice to me was "you're good in clinical and thats half the battle." It didn't really help too much, but any time I go to clinicals, I am more determined to get through this. It's all I've ever wanted to do, so I'm gonna do it! And you can too! Just keep plugging away. Chemistry was also difficult for me, but I ended with a B. I have confidence in you!:nuke: Good luck!

It really just depends on your program. I just finished my first semester and I bought all of the "required" books ( from different discount places online) and spent about $1000. Come to find out that we didn't really have to have all of those books first semester, but that they are "required" for sometime during the program. But I found them to be helpful while doing care plans and such. So I ended up using them for reference, even though I didn't have to have them. Just ask the coordinator or someone who would know!

I've taken it twice (for two different schools) and the results popped up immediately when I finished the test. You should be able to log in ( at least with ATI) and be able to pull them up. Sorry if I am of no help!! :uhoh21:

Hi! I'm in my first semester of the ADN program (actually, finals are next week!! Woohoo!!), and I had all of my pre req's and bonus classes done before I got in. I had to apply twice (as there is no waiting list, just a point system), and got in the second time. I have financial aid, some scholarships and I work part time. I'm not sure how much longer I will be able to work, because it was tough this semester, but it can be done! There are usually a lot of scholarships available for nursing students. So don't settle for nothing! Fight for it! :) Good luck!

I have cluster headaches, and yes, they do move around your head. Everyone thinks you're crazy, because you can't really pinpoint it. And they are very painful.

when I get my RN (in 2 years), thats what I want to do in the summers. I think it would be so much fun! I've been going to our church camp since I was a little girl and it would be awesome to go back as the camp nurse!! :-) Have fun!!

Hey There!! It might not be as hard as you think. I worked really hard for several years and just completed all of my prereques this past semester. Last week I got my acceptance letter into the nursing program!!! I definitely wasn't expecting to get in. So just go ahead and apply and see what happens! It was a complete shock to me (I even have a few B's)! I am 21 and so incredibly excited about getting in! Don't give up!! There is still hope!! :kiss

I have to take the test by March 31 for the progam I applied to. I just took the NET for another nursing school. Is it similar? The time limits on the NET were ridiculous, I felt. Is the TEAS the same way? I am going to buy a study guide. Thanks! Emery

This is my last semester of pre-reqs as well! I am taking chemistry, statistics, muisc lit, medical terminology (for fun) and orchestra!

It has taken me like 4 semesters to complete ALL the pre-reqs for the nursing program. But I did all my general ed classes at the same time. I could have done it faster, but I wanted to do well in them.

I did really bad on my first exam too (last year), but each test got a little better. I ended up with a B. In A&P I and II. You can do it! (if I can I know anyone can.):wink2:

I know first hand that deaf people from birth definitely process things differently. I've run into that problem with my boyfriend who is deaf. At first there was a lot of miscommunication, until I realized how he thought. ITs alot easier if you know the deaf culture and how they think and how they are. I also know that they really appreciate it when you even try to talk to them in sign. Well, most of them. A few have a chip on their shoulder, but not most of them. It's a totally different world. It may not be worth much, but I have a friend who graduated from a Canadian school and easily landed a job in California right away. So I know it can be done quite easily, actually. Each situation may be different, however. Good luck!

Hi! I am currently a student who is looking to get into nursing school. I probably won't be able to get into it for the fall, but was told that I might be able to get into the surgical tech program. I was just wondering if it would help me at all later in my career? What is the demand like? Are the hours and pay any good? (I don't really care about the pay, but just curious). lol. THat is exactly what I told my parents while in the ER. At least you get something at the end. sheesh.

I can definitely feel your pain. Last summer I went through my first kidney stone and lithotripsy. I went to the ER because I didn't know what it was. The doc said it was stones when I came in, so they did a CT scan and told me that there was nothing there, but I did have a UTI. So they gave me an antibiotic and sent me home. That was on Saturday. I was in pain all weekend! I couldn't eat, move or sit up even. I was throwing up and just plain miserable. On Monday morning, a nurse from the ER calls and says that my scan was "re-evaluated" and I have a 5mm stone in my left kidney and that if I'm still in pain, that I should come back in. I did, of course. I had to wait 2 weeks to see a urologist, and I had the litho 2 days later. The stent was really uncomfortable at first, but then I didn't notice it. To this day I still have pain from it. I don't know if I have another stone or what, but I'm supposed to go overseas on a missions trip in the summer, so I hope it stops soon. I am so sorry that you have to go through it again. I know what you are feeling. Just a general question for everyone whose had stones before: how old were you when you had your first one? I was 19 and everyone said that I was too young to have them. Just curious. Emery

I come from a big family and my mom thought about naming my last sister Remember Patience. Our local newspaper lists all the siblings with the birth announcements and she thought it would be funny for that to be the last of 10 names! lol ~Emery

Well said, my friend, well said. lol. :chuckle I have the exact same problem. You just have to prove them wrong. It isn't always easy, but it can be done. I am 20 and even at work now (fast food) people think I'm 13 or 14. It isn't because we look young, but because we are short (I am 4 feet 10 inches tall). They are only looking at our height. I used to get really upset, but not any more. Have any of you had to problem of people being rude about it? You can actually have fun with it..... (I am known for being a jokester) :-D Emery
