  1. At the ED where I work it would depend on which doctor is working. The majority are major CYA docs and would do a combination of #1 and #3 - neuro exam, IV, head CT, observation, and discharge with verbal and written instructions. But there are a few who would opt for just #1.
  2. UDS = urine drug screen
  3. I think you should stay far away from anything that has to do with patient care, including teaching. Maybe hospital administration would be a better fit for you.
  4. Regional Medical Ctr...$17.25/hr for RN's. I'm not sure about Stringfellow, but probably in the same ball park.
  5. The pay at Anniston hospitals is PATHETIC!
  6. I didn't have any math questions and cut off at 75.
  7. Have you tried the PearsonVue trick? It does work and will help to relieve some of your anxiety!
  8. I got the last question wrong and still passed with 75 questions.
  9. I recommend Saunder's Comprehensive Review book and the CD that comes with it. Do both the book and the CD. I also recommend Prioritization, Delegation Assignment by Linda LaCharity. All I did was those two plus the NCLEX 3500, and I just found out that I passed! Also, be sure to read the rationales for both correct and incorrect answers. Good luck for the next time! You can do this!
  10. It's official.......I PASSED!!! I'M AN RN!!!!!!! :clpty: Congrats to all that have passed, and goodluck to those getting ready to take NCLEX! :dancgrp::dncgbby::dncgcpd:
  11. It's official.......I PASSED! I'M AN RN!!!!!! :heartbeat:heartbeat The trick worked for me. :clpty::dncgcpd::dncgbby::dancgrp:
  12. I took my test today. Cut off at 75 questions. I got what everyone else seems to be getting....priority, infection control, pharm, and about 15 SATA. The one thing that is helping the anxiety is that I tried the trick and got the famous "cannot schedule another exam, contact BON" message. I pray that this means that I passed. It has worked for everyone else so far. I will know for sure Tues. morning @ 09:00. :plsebeg:
  13. I took my NCLEX RN this afternoon. It cut off at 75 questions. After about 3 hours my status changed to delivery successful. Soooooo, I logged in and tried to register. I am getting the famous message we all want to see...... "Cannot register, contact board of nursing, yada yada yada". I hope the trick is still true! I will know for sure Tues. morning at 09:00. :sstrs:
  14. June 17th is the day for me! Good luck everyone!
  15. In all fairness to Jeff State about the calculations test, you have two chances to pass the test with a 90% or better. It's really not that big of a deal. Once you know how to do the calculations, you should have no problem passing with 90% or better. If you can't get 90% or better, then you don't know calculations enough to be a nurse! Would you want YOUR nurse calculating YOUR meds who only gets the dose correct less than 90% of the time????? Medication errors represent the largest single cause of errors in the hospital setting. More than 1.5 million people in hospitals and nursing homes are injured each year by medication errors, according to a new report from the Institute of Medicine; and more than 7,000 people die annually from medication errors! Requiring nursing students to pass with 90% or better on calculation tests is a GREAT thing, and I wouldn't expect anything less. Think about it!
  16. My class started with 67, and we were down to 25 after the first two semesters. We haven't lost any since. (I am in 4th semester now).
  17. Don't give up all that you have worked so hard for! He said that he will stand by you with your decision, well then trust him to do so! You only have a year and a half left? That will go by before you know it! And the closer you get to finishing school, he will know that these rough times are almost over too. He will be just as excited as you are when you graduate LOL! And in the meantime, always shower him with praises and compliments (men do really need that!). Let him KNOW that everything he is doing for you and the kids means the world to you. Shower him with affection. Set aside special time alone for the two of you to keep your relationship healthy and fulfilling for BOTH of you. Also, keep reminding him that he is making ALL of your dreams come true: a wonderful husband, a wonderful "dad" to your boys, and supporting you in getting your dream job as an RN (which is going to be quite handy as this economy goes down the dumps!) Look him in the eyes and tell him that you love him - every day, several times a day. Tell him how much you need him! Also, most men want to feel like "men". It is very important that you give him that! Even though he is doing traditional "mom" activities while you are in school, give him those things that men "need". Ya know what I mean??? Let him feel and know that he is "tha man"! When you tell him your decision to remain in school, ask him if he has any suggestions to make things easier for him (like you working part time if at all possible, financial aid/loans, babysitters, etc.) Let him know that you are willing to do anything you can for him like he does for you. I also agree with the post above that if, God forbid, something happens to your husband or your marriage down the road, then you would be soooo relieved that you completed nursing school when you could. You would be able to support yourself and your kids, college for the kids, etc. etc. etc. Would you be able to do that on your salary now and the economy getting worse every year????? I gave you this advise, for what it is worth, based on what has worked for me and my husband. I was divorced and then married the man of my dreams on 7/7/07. One month later I started nursing school. I have 3 kids that he is helping me raise. I graduate in May, and we are sooooooo excited! The first 2-3 semesters were a little rough, but now that I am nearly done with the 4th semester with only one more semester to go, the finish line is definitely within site. Time is starting to fly by now! I keep reminding my husband, with a wink, that I am going to make all of this up to him BIG TIME! I tend to try to lighten up things with smiling, humor, laughing and cutting up, and that really helps A LOT! Nursing school is never easy on anyone, but we just trudge through it, and in the end we will reap the rewards! Your husband and kids will too! Remember, it is only 18 months to get there! This is nothing compared to the rest of your life! With a little effort you can do this! Just try to make things the best that they can be with you and your family during this time. Keep smiling and singing! Anyway, I hope this helps! Good luck girl, and hang in there!
  18. 100 pages??????? OMG!
  19. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! At my school we have to make 90% or better or you are out, and we only get two attempts. That is until the last semester, we must get 100%! Fortunately I have made 100% on my first attempt on all of them so far, with one more semester to go!
  20. I would DEFINITELY recommend the Shelby campus!
  21. I live in Pell City right now, and it is nice here. When I graduate in May, though, I want to move a little closer to B'ham (where I plan to work) to save a little $$$$$ on gas! I am thinking about Moody or Odenville - close to B'ham yet not the busy hustle and bustle of the city!
  22. You will get in! Don't fret! Good luck, and start preparing for a lot of self study!!!!
  23. Hello Bamamom! I am 4th semester at the Shelby campus. I would recommend full time day program at the Shelby campus. We have several people in my class who are single with children. One woman in my class is a widower with FIVE children! It can definitely be done. The main thing you need is someone to keep your kids for you while you are in class or clinicals and for the summer semester. My kids are in school, and I am home well before they get out of school (with the exception of the summer semester and 3 night clinicals this semester). I may have more nights next semester with my preceptorship, I'll just have to wait and see. Fortunately, I have a wonderful supportive husband who keeps the kids while I am in class or clinicals. As long as you have someone to babysit for you while you are in class or clinicals, you can definitely do it! Also, in my opinion, I think the full time day program at Shelby is the way to go! I just hear too many negative things about the St. Vincent's night program and the main campus program. Good luck! :wink2:
  24. They held my place for the next semester. I applied for the summer and got accepted, but I called and asked if they would hold my spot until the next semester (fall) since my kids were out of school for summer and I didn't have anyone to babysit them. They told me that would be no problem. BUT...... I had 200/200 points, so I would have been accepted no matter which semester I applied. I say this because I don't know if they will hold your spot if you have fewer points than the cutoff of the semester you want to hold off for. For instance, if your points are above the cutoff for summer but not for fall (because more people apply for fall admission), you may, unfortunately, have no choice but to start in the summer. I would call and ask. Good luck!
  25. I applied for summer 2007 and got accepted. I did not want to start in a summer semester, so I called and they held my place for the Fall term. I am 4th semester now, and looking back on it, that was the BEST thing to do. I would NEVER recommend starting in the summer to anyone! There are 3 nursing classes, labs with validations, plus 7 clinicals the first semester. Clinical paperwork is awful! The program is mostly self study and a lot of getting used to. In addition, if you start in a summer term you would have the 4th semester in the summer too, which I really wouldn't recommend since you would have 13 clinicals to do in less than 10 weeks on top of exams EVERY WEEK to study for, plus all of the clinical paperwork to do! No way! I know people have done it, but neither they nor I would ever recommend it. You could do what I did.... go ahead and apply, and if you get accepted have them hold your spot until the fall. I think waiting 10 weeks to begin in the fall would be well worth it! Good luck in whatever you decide!
