  1. A&P 1 and Chemistry. I have had chemistry in HS got a C and I took 2 chemistry courses in college and got a C in both. I guess I am just one who struggles with chemistry.
  2. No I did not use a manila env. I folded my app. @ used a regular env. Trust me, the adm. committe is going 2look@ more IMPORTANT items. B/c u have2 send a sealed env. from a school's transcript @ u'r app. too then you should use a manila envelope to fit it all in.
  3. I volunteered in a non-health related facility because I was a CNA who already had 3 years of Clinical experience. So, needless to say I wanted to show my diversitivity and volunteer elsewhere. I would recommend volunteering in a non-health and health facility.
  4. I applied to 23 schools. Got denied from 11 programs & accepted into 6, &the other schools I have incomplete app.s. The reason Y they R incomplete is b/c I had already gotten into 6 programs & I chose the best one. Yea I know that app. fees are expensive I have spent $240 on app fees for 10 schools &what the big bummer is that the school that I am going to attend DOES NOT require an app.fee. If only I had applied to that school first I would've saved $240. My advice to you is call/email all the schools that UR going 2apply2 & ask them if U apply online is the app.fee waived. I called up about 40 different schools &asked them that same question, alot of them said yes& of course some said no. It took alot of research &time, but I got accepted into a great program.
  5. 2 schools. I did prerequisites &a Community College & now I'm transfering to a university to attend their nrsing program. However I did spend 3 yrs @ the CC. My brother &coworker were telling me that I should go to this other private College in town (bout15miles away). The problem is that I would have to spend 1 semester there taking more prerequisite courses AND THEN apply to the program. I was like NO WAY. I am not going to spend $12,000 a semester at a college when there is no guarantee that I will be accepted into the program, duh.
  6. My first semester (which was in Fa2004). I took Intro to Life Science-4credits, Developmental English-4credits, Beginning Spanish-4credits and worked 9 hours per week.
  7. Definalty take the CNA over again! I got into nursing school w/ all Cs except for 1 B & that was in A&P2
  8. I took the summer off too. I am volunteering ~3-4hrs/week. I put in a job app. the beginning of June to work temporarily during the summer, but didn't get a call back until last week. Needless to say I am working for them &only have about 5 days scheduled to work until I start school in a few weeks. In the meantime I am so bored:anpom:&I don't want to sit still &watch TV all day b/c that will just make the time go by slower.
  9. no i don't think it is very good advice:nono:. why should u enroll as a cma if you want to be an lpn, it's like when those students who want to get their master's in nursing/practicioner & they are getting their associates degree in nursing. why did she say, "it would lay the needed ground work"? getting your cma wouldn't increase ur chances of passing the net. my advice 2u is 2study harder for the net. time yourself when ur taking a practice tests. focus on what ur most struggling w/. pick up books like the "actkaplan/princeton" or "nursing school entrance exams for dummies." i would disagree with thatposhgirl about getting your cna &not cma. cmas get paid much more like $3-6 starting off than cnas. cmas work in hospitals too.
  10. No way I have no suggestions. I think u, me,& every1 else who gets accepted into a program is lucky. I was in the same boat u were 2yrs ago when I found out allthese schools had diff. prereqs. I had an excel wkst 2 graph them, but then it got 2b :bugeyes:too too too much work, research, &confusing. No I didn't settle for the first nursing school that I got into (if that's what ur thinking). I just started applying to different programs that had the best reputation and NCLEX results.
  11. I am immune to both! :yelclap: I was so afraid that I wasn't going to be able to start the nursing program this fall, thank goodness.
  12. What does a CNA do at a homecare agency? My first day is tomorrow and I am going in with a blindfold b/c I have no idea what to do.
  13. I graduated High School in 2003, took 1yr off to work, 2004 started 3yrs of prereq. courses at the age of 19-22, Spring 2007 found out I didn't get accepted into the nrsing program that I applied to b/c my grades weren't that good, applied to many programs &did ALOT of research Summer Fall &Winter 2007.Found out I got accepted into a nrsing program at a private university around Feb. &now I am leaving in 1 month to start the nrsing program. I will be graduating a couple weeks before I turn 26. Finally my dreams are coming!!!Oh& to top it all off I just saw a concert of my favorite 80's/90's metal hair band Poison &Sebastian Bach:rckn: another one of my dreams.
  14. If med-surg is not available and I have to pick a different department what would you suggest?
  15. Are there any nurses out there that can answer my question?
  16. The document that I got from the nursing department states "Show evidence of your rubella titer demonstrating immunity to rubella. If you are not immune, you must receive an additional rubella immunization prior to July 25, 2008 and subsequently be re-tested." I got a rubella shot May 1986 (1st series) and April 1993 (2nd series). I just took the titer yesterday and results will be in on Monday. Do you think that I will be immune to Rubella? I guess I just don't know how long the vaccine is valid for.
  17. I would go with a BSN not b/c I want to get my masters or anything but b/c you'll get the ball rolling and on your way. Here around my town I felt so much pressure to get into a CommunityCollege and the applicant pool last semester was 170students w/ only 30spots! It's like yeah I know it's possible but think of the odds and my GPA was like 2.8. Another private college in town have over 100 applicants w/ only 35-40 spots. I talked with this guy who's sister went to a private nursing school &the told me to apply to the expensive colleges &universitys b/c others don't want to pay that much.
  18. If it is not a requirement DO NOT take it. You should not waste time taking a class you don't need to. I am not a current nursing student, but I start nursing school in a month and when I was at a community college taking Micro and A&P I never would think taking an intro to bio helped or would have helped. Basically just follow the course curriculum prerequisite courses for each class. I mistakenly did not take chemistry, A&P, or micro even though I could've right away b/c I had chemistry in HighSchool.
  19. Oh defiantly apply. How much of your time does it take to fill out an application & complete an essay if necessary, not much! I applied to so many different nursing programs even though I didn't think I would get accepted or that I didn't meet the requirements. The nursing program I got accepted into stated (on the website) certain prerequsite courses and that I needed organic chemistry to take my 1st nursing class. I applied anyway. I got my acceptance letter and it stated that now the requirements changed starting this year that you can take organic chem concurrently with 1st nursing class. Go for it!!
  20. It took me 3 years. -Graduate High school in 2003 -Took a year off to work -Fall 2004 - Spring 2007 worked on pre-reqs. (I ended up withdrawing from 2 semesters due to heavy course load &car accident) -Spring 2007 I found out I didn't get accepted into the nursing program of my first choice and I didn't have a backup plan of a 2nd or 3rd or 4th choice of nursing schools -The program that I got accepted into (got acceptance letter earlier this year) I could have started without having to finish all those prereqs b/c the sequence is that nursing students take gen eds AND nursing classes at the same time, GRRRRR.
  21. When I called the IDPH to ask a question about the scholarship I told the guy that my EFC is below $2,000 and his expression was, "oh yea that is very low you should defiantly apply." Then I told him my GPA which is 2.8 and he said that that may defer the committe from selecting me but that I should apply anyway b/c he doesn't know everyone's GPA and how competitive it is this year. What was your GPA?
  22. Thank you for all your comments. What do i do when those who are unsupportive asks me questions about my school, work, etc? I don't want to tell them ne-thing b/c they'll start putting me down, but I can't ignore them b/c they're sitting right next to me. Family functions are the worst, I have a BIG family & every1 attacks me w/ questions. In fact yesterday my bro (the 1who is UNsupportive) asked me where I was working. I didn't want to tell him where so i said, "nowhere." He then turned to my mother (who was sitting next to him) & told her that she should get me a job at her factory, then after awhile I can get a promotion &work as a secretary!!
  23. I have the opportunity next year to work as a student nurse intern for the summer at a local hospital and the choice of department I would like to work in. My question is to all you experienced nurses working on med surg, is the medical surgical unit a good unit to work in as an intern?
