Thanks to all who responded. I wish this school would have made gen bio as a pre req. I just was not prepared at all. It's been so long since I've done any science that I had to go back and review basic cell structure! Def stuff you should know before A&P!

I have to drop A/P and start with general bio. I thought if I studied real hard it would be fine but it's been really hard for me. I graduated high school over 10 yrs ago and really do not remember a lot of science at all. I really shold have been more preapared..like knowing a decent amount of general bio etc... Anyway..it's a bummer because it's to late to add a bio. But at least next time I take A & P I'll feel up to speed. thanks for letting me vent!!

Hi! I respnded to Steve's post. Check out www.startribune.com and go unders jobs. I typed in "RN New Grad" and like 4000 hits came up. I didn't go through them but I'm sure most are in the twin cities area.

So true!!!!!!!!! I am in clinicals for CNA and wow is it ever hard and underpaid! BUT I have learned so much and really enjoy it as well.

They have a forum for each state..maybe more poeple from Arizona cold anwser you and give you more specific information...but your right I think because Arizona in general in new..but I'm sure you can find somewhere you like!! LOTS of jobs in Arizona..esp Phoenix/Yuma areas....but this is to meet the demand because of the huge growth in AZ. New grads with no exp make $29/hr at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

They said they work 3 days on and 1 day off. If they are in port on an off day they can go into town or do whatever they want... I'm telling you, if I was young/single/no kids I do it.

Anyone ever thought of a career change? I saw an article about nursing on cruise ships, sounds very interesting. For people like me with young children it's just not possible but if I didn't have kids I'd try it out. They require 2-3 yeras hospital exp with esp ER training. And they work 6 months on, one month off (usally). Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there. Sure wouldbe a great experience.

I agree. It's not late for the original poster yet. Don't give up, dry beinga CNA and then decide. I'm in a CNA class right now and last night our instuctor was showing how to wash the genital area for a man and a women, she had a dummy with removeable parts. This young girl in my class looked like she was about to pass out, her face got all red and you could tell she's cleary uncomfortable. Esp when our instructor was explaining whato do if the male is not cirsimsized. But she really wants to be nurse and although she really doesn't wnat to wash men's member' it's just part of the job.. So don't give up yet. If you really want to be a nurse you'll get through it. Don't be to hard on yourself either. Many people are really uncomfortable giving baths at first! Good luck!

Hello..I am not a nurse yet but live in Maine and have also heard it's hard up here to get work, but don't know for sure. All she can do is try and apply at every hospital. Has she thought of moving out state for a few years to get experience and then she could move back and probably get a job with some exp? I know it would be a huge climate/culture change but Arizona is desperatly in need of nurses in the Phoenix and Yuma areas. Just a thought. Otherwise maybe she could post her resume on monster.com or something like that? Best of luck!

There is a great site at www.city-data.com you could check out places in AZ to relocate. I lived in Yuma and it was nothing when I first moved there, but they are growing a lot, as the other people said it's SOOOOOOO hot there! But you may really love it, a lot of people from the midwest really like all the heat and no snow? Best of luck to you!

Hello Military Spouse.. sorry can't comment about nurisng since I am not a nurse yet but are you still a military spouse ( going by your name). Because one good thing about Yuma if your military is the base, you'd have medical (for you) and the commisary which us military spouses know ( me included) we can save TONS of $$$$$$$$$

Hello you might want to try this website: www.city-data.com and click on Arizona. There a few posts on Yuma, Arizona! I lived there for three years and bitched and moaned the whole time ( I was raised in the mid-west) about the hot ass summer! Luckily we did have a pool and that was great! Yuma is a small town, but is really growing. They don't have a big nightlife scene since it's a smaller town, but a lot of people like to go boating on the Colorado river and going quading is huge here. I hated living there but now we live in Maine and the snow won't go away. It's funny...maybe I got to used to the sun because now I miss it!!! Good luck on whatever you decide!

I read that the Nclex was a national test so that when you pass it, it will not matter what state you move to work. Here is my question: I was looking up job posting on the web, and some hospital for criteria say: Current Minnesota RN license... what does that mean?

I saw a show in TV about a mother/teenage daughter who joined weight watchers together and really lost a lot of weight by motivating eachother. The best of luck to you and your daughter.

Go for it! A few months back I posted a question about the average age in nursing school. I'll be in my late 20-s almost 30 when I start nursing school so around 32-32 when I finish and thought the class would be full of recent high school graduates and that I would be the oldest...but from the post several people replied that nurisngfor them was a later in life career choice and that several didn't begin nurisng school until their late 30 and some 40s. Is there a standard for wearing scrubs out in town? I was reading that nurses have lockers in the hospital to change. I was at the store yesterday and there was a lady in scrubs behind me, we gotto talking about nurisng and she worked in L & D and was in her scrubs. I'm not saying that it is wrong or anything, I was just wondering if you can or if you should not do that?

Has anyone gone here? I was reading their requirments and they say you should apply one year in advance to the fall semester you want to attend, but then it says application deadlines are March 1st? Also, they want your transcrips from High Shool, I graduated 10 years ago, would they still want them? Thanks for any replies!!!

Hello everyone...this was on MSN this morning...it says that RN is a great choice for 2007 grads because there will be a huge need for nurses... don't we always hear this yet so many schools have waiting lists and several new nurse grads struggle to find a job? Someone mentioned here that they were going to a nursing school in Oklahoma that had NO waiting list, I believe they took everyone with a decent GPA?
